| Walking or fenced cage New user with new Dexter 5 mos old. Our breeder has used a small wire fence for potty. Guess it's a 4 ft area. We would like to use a collar and leash in our backyard. Please guide me here if we should do this or not. TIA |

| Hi and Welcome to YT! Shouldn't be a problem, but a harness would be a better choice over a collar. Some Yorkies have problems with their tracheas (windpipes) and a collar puts undue pressure there and can cause injury.

and Bear too! ♥ Donating Member | I did both while potty training. I also use the harness as opposed to the collar. We would walk every few hours but the playpen type fence was great for the "going out every hour" to avoid accidents.

and Bear too! ♥ Donating Member | I also had a playpen fence in my kitchen with a pee pad, bed and toys so if I couldn't keep my eyes on them for a few minutes, I knew they were safe and it prevented unwanted accidents.
