My two yorkies bark like crazy when they know me or my father are about to take them on walks! I've tried everything to get it to stop, hopefully this will help! |
This is excellent! Does it work with other dogs? Bella isnt much of a barker, but my Chi is. He will bark at a random sock and wont stop!!! lol |
Reminds me of a site I have done some reading on. The woman says she created the Three Bark Rule. Canine Transformations :: Articles It is a good resource for training. :) |
Reply to Danirenae : Although my training ideas were developed to train Yorkie puppies, I am sure they would work for other dogs. The wonderful thing about training is there are many methods and most offer something we can use. The trick is finding something that feels natural, comfortable that will work for you and your dog. I never use clicker training. It feels forced and too quick paced for me. I never use choke or prong collars but, I don't train big strong dogs either. I am always open to new ideas. I learn something new on YT almost every day. :) |
Thank you so much for this advice. Out of my 3 dogs, only my Yorkie barks. She doesn't do it a lot yet, and I'm happy to now have a way to nip it in the bud :) I wish that I'd been able to find a method the stop my schipperke from barking 18 years ago - she barked at everything:rolleyes: |
thank u! |
Thanks so much for posting. I'm going to try the barking commands you suggested. My only question is that my Yorkie, Libby is 3 1/2 yrs old. Will the barking commands work on a dog that is not a puppy? Her barking has gotten much worse. She barks at my husband and sons incessantly and is really protective of my daughter and me. Thanks so much for your help! |
Hey quick question, my Yorkie is a little over 4 months old, and he only barks during two situations: 1) when i'm running fast around the house and he's chasing me for play. 2) when i put him in his play-pen or cage and go out of sight (even when i leave for work for the day). What can be done to prevent #2???? |

So how do you control the barking when they want to play or throw the ball? I have a 5 month old, and she has only been barking when she wants me to play with her. How do I address it? Just say "quiet"? |

Gracie also barks when she is playing. I don't want to tell her she can't play and have fun but if it goes on too long I will tell her stop and she will stop. I guess you just have to go by what you want to allow. Dogs bark and some dogs bark more than others but you should be able to put some limits on when it should stop with a "no!" or a "stop!" command. |
Teresa thank you for this great post. I really needed #4. The pups have recently started a new bad habit. We do training in the same spot in the kitchen each day with treats. Now they have started running in the kitchen to the training spot and barking at me non stop until I start doing our training. They will both hit the ground in the "down" position before I even tell them to. I have to laugh because they are so cute, but the barking is annoying. I was making the mistake of making them be quite and then giving them a treat. Now I will ignore them when they try to force me to do training. I still have to laugh though because it is so cute. |
So what to do to stop the barking when we are away from home? Izzie must be left in a crate or she potties all over : ( She is 4 and when we leave we make sure she has bones andtoys in with her but we can hear her barking as soon as we pull up. We also leave the tv on but nothing seems to help. Any suggestions? |
