Awesome tips, I'm going to have to incorporate a couple of these. |
Age At what age? We just brought our little yorkie home 3 days ago. He is 8 weeks today. |
hi I'm new here but really learning a lot as I read all the threads rosie will bark at everything I don't get up too fast to stop her so she is way out there I don't mind when shes guarding our home but the exsive barking needs to stop thank yall for the tips |
My Puppy has changed! My 6 month old girl spent the night at the hospital (just diagnosed Liver shunt )and came back with some bad habits. She has begun barking over everything I feel like it had an effect on her and is now unsure of everything. She never was away from me over night and I figure she is just going to need love and time. I just want my secure Puppy back! Can't wait to try! |
I have two collies who are therapy dogs and one Yorkie gotten at a year who are trained as you described. A year ago we adopted a ten year old Yorkie and then in March a seven year old Yorkie. Spenser stops if just shown a pink spray bottle, but nothing stops Max. He barks appropriately, he barks in the faces of the other dogs, he barks endlessly going outside, he barks and barks and barks. Is there anything we can do to teach this old dog, new tricks? He is smart and darling, but the barking even drives the other dogs crazy. Thanks. Gew |
What would you recommend using if he thinks squirting water at him is playing? |
Boy, if you or anyone can suggest a solution, please share. His barking ,especially when the dogs are getting ready to go out, is just enough to drive everyone crazy! He barks so hard his little body leaves the ground. |

Story.......I camped with 3 lil girls that were tom boys always wrestling and crazy lil sweethearts. Camping in the wilds brings many bugs into the camper and fly swatters were needed. After a while I noticed every time I went for the fly swatter the girls took off running lol, they were scared of it, they saw and heard it in action, hummmm good to know. When my 3 lil tom girls were getting to rambunctious and moms words of knock it off fell upon deaf ears I tried a new phrase which was "where's the fly swatter", ears got perked up and all 3 headed for the hills. Well finally something that caught their attention and that phrase was used often, and at times I would have to hold the fly swatter for them to see it. With Cody if I am on the phone to long to suit him he is non stop barking at me to end the call, he has also seen the fly swatter in action and is also scared of it, to end the barking when I'm on the phone all I have to say is those 4 little words "Where's the fly swatter" and it gets quiet lol. When I vacuum to keep him from attacking and biting the vac I tie it to the vacuum and he stays away. So that magical fly swatter works for me, I have one in each room for easy access lol, give it a try, just swipe it in the air a few times, there is just something about a fly swatter that has magical powers that get dogs under control lol. |
I certainly can use some magic in my life. Mostly they are selling snow shovels around here, but I will put on my saddest face and ask the manager of our local hardware store. Thanks for the great idea. Spaying my five pounders this time of year would result in pupsickles. |
The spray didn't work for my Cody. I had him in obedience school when I first rescued him, the trainer used it on him once, he looked at her like REALLY!!!! so I never used that method. |
Does anything work. I have four dogs. Finley barks for reason once in a great while. Both Audrey and Paige give three barks, our signal to go out but Max barks non stop when he wants out, thinks it is dinner time, anyone comes over...much of the time. The others were trained very young, but Max at seven was left in a cardboard box at a shelter, puss coming from his mouth, unable to walk on two legs with luxating patella, and Lymes disease. Beyond the barking, he is wonderful: comes, walks on heal, gentle and loving, darling. Just a few months ago he had a stone in his urethera and needed surgery. |

Darn doggy mom and dad! What a great post! I need to work on this with Frankie. And I totally agree, it is our fault he's a "yappy" dog. Time to train us too! Thanks! |
