Missing his potty pad Bailee has done well with his potty training. He goes outside when out for a walk and uses potty pads inside. He is 1-1/2 now and has starting missing the pad. He is close, but doesn't always make it. Any suggestions?:confused: |
Same problem here. 11 month old Lewis now believes it is OK to only put his two front paws on the pee pad. He was very accurate up until the past couple months. I've tried putting a bottle in the middle of his pad for him to aim on, but he doesn't feel the need to 'mark' inside our own home, only outside. I'm not sure what to do anymore, other than continue to treat him when he gets it right, and to tell him NO when he misses. He can hold his pee in for a good 6-10 hours now, so it's not like I can watch him like a hawk waiting for him to go. I'm stumped. |
I use dollar store shower curtain liners. I cut them in half and put the pee pad in the center. They can be washed and when they rip they are easily replaced. |

I have a similar problem. I have two that are runaway poopers, lol. They will go over to the middle of the pad and start pooping. They are so good about always going on the pad but before the poop lands they start running off the pad and therefor it misses. If I am there standing in front of them though so they can't run they do good but for when I can't they end up running off. But how can you blame a dog when it goes on the pad but is just to impatient for gravity to fully take effect?:p I guess I should be thankful that they aren't runaway peers, lol. |

:lol tears Sorry, got the visual going here...this is what Hot Rod does too! He's so good about peeing on the pad but for some reason doesn't like pooing on the pad and when he does decide to use it for that he's running off it as he's doing it! lol |
I have the same problem... I do like the idea of the shower curtain... thanks!!! I will give that a try. Bentley trys to get it all on the potty pad, but sometimes misses the mark. If I have him outside, he always goes pee and poo. We are still a work in progress with the potty training.:p |
Mine does this to but i give them credit for trying :) |
Glad to hear we are not alone. The little 'accident' still beats going out in the rain and snow to go potty. And, he doesn't always miss. I can relate with the runaway poopers too!! Thank God we have little furbabies!! :) |
LOL I thought Kaos was the only one. He always pee on the edge of the pad so it goes under. Used to drive me nutts. So I took away pads and he goes outside now. :-P |
Tibbs does this sometimes too so I went to walmart and bought some spray called OUT I spray it in the middle of the pad and he seems to want to potty right where I sprayed the stuff! :D |

My roxy did this too. She would pee on the edge of the pad and it would go under or she would start pooping in the middle then circle around and end up pooping off the pad. I bought a dog litter tray and put the pads in there. It worked. Now I have a home made potty patch made with the doggy litter tray. Still works great. |
One Hint for male dogs. Fill a plastic soda bottle with sand and put it in the middle of the pee pad. My creative granddaughter use a big soda bottle. She bought a small fake plant at WallyWorld and stuck it the bottle and filled the bottle with colored glass marbles. Cute and piratical. |

Now that we have a new baby, Cailee, I am appreciating the pee pad more. Cody goes outside and barks when he needs to go out. We trained him(a continuing challenge) on a potty patch because we live on a boat and are cruisers. Now that we have our new little girl, Cailee (3-1/2), we are working in the pee pad. She does OK most of the time, but she thinks it's OK to get her front legs on. She still young, so I am hopeful. Also, Cailee is a "walking pooper". She starts in the middle of the pee pad and really covers some ground. Cody never did that. Oh, a new experience. |

Maybe I'll reconsider now. What kind of tray did you buy? |
Cooper is four and he still misses his pad. Although you wouldn't know it from his reaction. It doesn't matter if he hits the pad directly or pees four feet from the pad. He comes running into the living room, barks, spins and fully expects a treat. |

Absolutely love these posts. My little Gabby is a very private doggie will not potty on the pad when we are watching. And if she is away from her pad she will go hide behind a chair or whatever. If she is missing in action we better be finding her. And when she gets taken outside she will always squat even if it is just to fool her mom. For the first six months of her life she thought her name was GO POTTY! |

We put Teddy's pads in a dog litter box (bigger than a cat box with a small lip to walk in easier). I think the idea of going in helped him to know where to go better. Now, if I could only get him to 'shake' it when he's done because boy does he dribble on the carpet as he walks away! :D |
LOL ~ I love these little guys!!! :D:D |
Duke is the same way with the peeing and pooping. He goes on the pad, just misses it. He also lifts his legs. I have a bottle of water in the middle for him to aim. I used a tray from Stop and Shop that was made for dogs with 3 walls around it thinking that would help but it was not made well. The walls had holes (as part of their design) and made the space seems so small that Duke was afraid. I now just use 2 pad to make the space a big bigger for him. We would do anything dont we. |
Kobi has never liked the pads. He goes well outside, but will not use the pad. Wish I new what to do to make him use them. He will just walk on them and smell and sometime lay down and go to sleep on them ! |
I use the doggy litter box with washable potty pads inside. Takes care of the missing the pad. Personally, I would not put a bottle or mini fire hydrant :D, or any other object in there to let him "aim", I think it only encourages them to lift their legs in the house. JMHO. The nice thing about the litter box is it has sides, so when my male does lift, it stays inside the box |
