| Long post, sorry! Please critique my potty training schedule! A little background first: When I got Bentley he was 7 months old and about 85% potty trained from his previous owner (only going #2 in the house about once per week). After I brought him to our home he was doing wonderful, only a couple of #2 accidents and it was my fault for not yet knowing his schedule and signals. Never peed in the house at all. He has been crated during the day while I am at work. I come home for lunch and let him out then he goes back in the crate until my husband gets home from work at about 4:30. He sleeps in our bed at night and I usually take him out once in the middle of the night…around 2:30 or 3:00am. Sometimes if he would get antsy I would put him off the bed and he would get free roam of the house. He would usually run around playing with a toy for a few minutes and then end up curled up on a pillow next to my bed on the floor and would sleep til the alarm goes off at 6:00am. No accidents during the night ever. Some time during the night he peed on the rug in my living room. He also went poop in his crate while I was getting dressed for work this morning. He also peed in his crate three times in the past week in his crate while I was at work. That’s 5 accidents in one week (that I know of) when I have had him for 2 months now and he had not been having any accidents. I’m not sure why he is regressing. Maybe he is getting to comfortable since I have had no reason to punish him at all so now he thinks he can do as he pleases? I am unsure as to what his little mind is thinking. Anyone have any ideas? Also I made a new schedule that I will be starting today. Please feel free to let me know if you see any issues or anything wrong with it. I know it’s a lot of time in the crate, but this is only temporary until I feel he is on schedule again, then he will slowly graduate to more time out of the crate. He is 9 months old now. 5:30am to 5:45am – potty time on tie out 5:45am to 5:55am – breakfast (eat in crate) 5:55am to 6:10am – potty time on tie out 6:10am to 7:10am – crate 7:10am to 7:30am – potty time on tie out/the free playtime outside 7:30am to 12:30pm – crate 12:30pm to 1:00pm – potty time on tie out/then free playtime outside 1:00pm to 4:30pm – crate 4:30pm to 4:45pm – potty time on tie out 4:45pm to 5:30pm – crate 5:30pm to 6:00pm – potty time on tie out/then free playtime outside 6:00pm – dinner (eat in crate) 6:10pm to 6:45pm – potty time on tie out/then free playtime outside 6:45 to 9:00 – free roam in house (only if he did #2 after dinner, if not, must be in crate with potty breaks every 15 minutes until he poops then gets free roam in house) 9:00pm to 9:30pm – potty time on tie out/then free playtime outside 9:30pm – bedtime in crate Thanks for any advice or input!! |
