Ozzy sleeps in our bed and I can tell you he still knows who the pack leader is. I think the leadership role is enforced the most on walks. However, I would not have a dog sleeping on the bed EVER if I couldn't trust they could hold it all night. Ozzy is good at this, so he enjoys the comforts of the bed and his "pack" at night. |

nope that's a flawed theory. mine both sleep in our bed with us and they both are very smart, well balanced, well trained dogs. it's not a power struggle. it's all about them loving you enough to do what you ask of them and you loving them enough to teach them patiently what you desire for them to do. you can do it! it's like having a new baby in the house, it's exhausting and hard work. my suggestion for one thing would be to get a large xpen (excersise pen) and keep the puppy in more open space while ur gone during the day so that it can run and play with more room. and as soon as pup is potty trained i for one am all for bed sharing. just take deep breaths, relax, and enjoy puppy hood. they grow fast and it's over soon. God Bless and good luck. PM me anytime |
It does get better i promise! for the longest time i would always wonder whenw ill coco just chill and watch tv with me? i dont have energy all the time. especially after work because my students drain my energy out... but shortly before her spay surgery (when she turned 7 months) she started to calm down a lot! if i put her on the bed to watch tv, she'd jump around for a bit then bring her chew to up to my lap and chill there... but until this day comes, enjoy his baby puppyhood! i sometimes wonder where the time's gone! |
I am getting my new baby Aug 20th, and this is a great thread. Hang in there! I raised one puppy 8 years ago, and have been kind of nervous at the thought of starting all over again, but I have a sweet well-behaved dog and I know that this puppy stage does not last long in comparison to all the years you will have together. Just remember to take photos and enjoy the cute puppy stage too, as exhausting as it is! |
