A dog's brain works far, far different than a humans’. There is absolutely no way that a 10 week old puppy would be able to cognitively comprehend that a nose rub in pee means that they are supposed to go on a pee pad.

took me months to fully potty train bella and i never gave up i just kept putting heroutside and treating her when she did and said no in a firm voice lol but i would never do that to her poor thing! cant imagine!

We can train dogs in many different ways, and sometimes harsher punishments work faster, but that doesn’t mean they work long term or that there won’t be some side effects, perhaps you should look up submissive urination, you might have a problem with that in the future, or maybe you’ll have rehomed the dog by then. It’s sad to me, that you haven’t read enough about the breed, and believe that a 10 week old dog should be housebroken; she should still be with her mama! Housebreaking is a gradual process, and they don't learn in one trial, and everything has side effects. At this age, your job is to make your puppy feel safe, loved, and confident.

real or not, it's good that people answer with real answers in the chance that someone genuinly looking for help comes across this thread...would hate for someone to see this and think it is appropriate to potty train this way!

If this is fake...it's so sad for me to think that some people have such a useless life they resort to internet bullying for fun. :rolleyes: why not do something positive with your time and make the world a better place instead of contributing to the hate and anger that there is far too much of... :(

I agree we should treat nearly all questions as real. Believe it or not, at one time, a large percent of the population tried to train this way. Rub their nose in it AND hit them with a rolled up newspaper. I think some of we yorkie owners are very naive as to what happens in the real world of pets.

I completely understand what you are saying. Yesterday, we were at the dog park in the small dog area, and an older lady repeatedly kept popping her shih tzu (for stealing a ball - I personally consider any of those tennis balls on the ground community property) and chihuahua on the nose (for barking AT A DOG PARK!) like it was nothing. I was horrified, and I wish I would have said more than I did. :( She didn't arrive until we were almost done. Ugh, it's still bothering me.

All that being said, I can't imagine a puppy, no matter the breed or training method used, who is completely potty trained at 10 weeks, can you? :rolleyes:

Have you ever read those scammer ads; they all claim their yorkies are completely potty trained at 5 weeks! :p Anyway, some people define the word potty trained or housebroken differently. To me, it's when a dog actively seeks out the space where he is allowed to urinate. An outdoor trained dog will show signs of wanting to go outside. A pee pad trained dog will seek out a pee pad and go on it. Just peeing on the pad, when they are confined to an x-pen isn't "trained", but this is what some people called trained and old time breeders called it “paper trained”. It’s not the same as being housebroken, but it’s a step in the journey! Again, I believe the best long term success, is to ignore the mistakes and praise the success, it may not be the fastest form of training, but there will be the fewest adversive side effects that are even more difficult to eliminate. Submissive urination, coprophagia (poop eating), and other forms of unacceptable behavior have been correlated to poor early potty training.

Maybe if I rub my DH's nose in his dirty clothes, he will stop leaving them in the floor.:questione

Good Point! It is frustrating to think people can't make better use of their time.
