Any one use Dog grass? So I'm moving from a house w/ yard to apartment and I thought the transition might be easier on my pup if I used those sythetic grass patches rather than going back to the litter box (it's been over a year since he's used one). I've not heard any reviews on them though, I wonder if dogs really use them like they would use grass? Are they easy to clean? Do you think puppies would make the transition from fake grass to real grass easier? |
I bought "The Potty Patch" from PetSmart and returned it after about three months. Ian would not use it to go potty. He would sometimes sit on it, but that's all. Potty Patch- As Seen on TV - Training - Training & Behavior - PetSmart |
I went to Home Depot and I bought some of my own astro turf, I bought a pretty big roll for like 20 bucks. I live in a condo on the bottom floor too... So i cut a little piece, enough to make him feel comfy to pee and poo. I also bought a little mini palm tree and put it in the corner.. When I am home I leave the slider door cracked so he is able to go in and out and go potty.. He LOVES it, he loves to lift his leg all over! At first he wasnt sure about it, but I put a pad on top so he gets use to going on the turf, now he goes no problem. Once a week I will just throw some dish soap on it and rinse it off with the hose, good as new! |

Henry n Izzy just thought it was a new bed lol they r both 100 percent trained to a litter box but with a pee pad so when i put that grass in there they kept sleeping on it... Needless to say, I went back to pee pads :D |

Astro turf sounds like a good idea, you didn't put anything under it? |

I wonder if mine would use one of these grass patches. They would not even use the pads when I put them in the pee pad holder. Ben would get frantic and pee right beside it. I took the pad out of the holder, and he could not pee on it fast enough. Back into the holder, no go. I finally gave up and now just have the pads on the floor again. |

It took Pnut a little bit to get use to it, at first he didnt want to walk on it, he didnt like the noise it made, and I think it felt a little funny to his paws! So I put a pad on top, he went on the pad no problem then about 2 weeks I took the pad away, and now he loves it.. So you never know with these little guys. I would say if you have a nice place to put it, I would try it. That stuff is pretty cheap! I wanted to get the real fake grass, but for the little amount I wanted it would be too expensive to order... so I had to get the flater material grass. |
I bought of these RASCAL DOG LITTER BOX COMPANY, L L C HOME PAGE but ended up not using the faux grass because they would lay on it like a bed... I did however use the tray because w Henry hikeing his leg, it prevented it from going off the pad. |
HD Turf I love the ideas of the HD Turf. That is way more economical, and serves the same purpose. Our 14 week old, Tucker, will use the Potty pads for pee (most of the time), but won't poop on them. We live in OR and he doesn't like the cold weather, so we are a little stuck. I think that I might give this a try. Thanks for the advise & post! Good Luck to you! Carrie & Tucker:aimeeyork |
Another option is the Grid System, I have a post titled that, somewhere on the training page, there is a post with a picture of Harley's system it's easier to clean than the grass |

I wanted to try and configure something like this last year on our screened in porch (not carpeted) for those freezing winter nights. My problem is: Jackson will not go in small spaces. He HAS to sniff around and have a big area to go. The only time he went on the porch was during the blizzard last year when there was 4ft of snow on the ground, and probably about a foot ended up in the porch. I hope, if I ever live in an apartment, I can get him to go on a patio or something. |
We have two pups. One loves her potty patch and uses it every day, the other will only use when he's desperate and will wait as long as he can for the next walk. It took some training to get them used to it and I think the scented pee pads underneath helped. |
I had the potty patch. Liked it at first but then the cleaning was gross and even then it still stunk up my house. |
