I believe every dog should be crate trained or at least have access to a crate so they are not afraid of it. I only think this for emergency purposes but you say she has access to a crate so I believe that's all you need to do so long as she will go in it without stress. I would tell the trainer once & for all in no uncertain terms that it's NOT going to happen so we will not be having this conversation again. Maybe you should ask her WHY she is so pushy about it. |
we never had to do much crate training. after a few weeks she was sleeping through the night in our bed with us instead of in her crate at night. and we do use a 4x4ft ex-pen for her, but we didn't use a crate that much we gated off our kitchen and let her run around with more room in there than a crate. i'd use it at night for a warm and small and safe place to get her used to holding it at night, but never all day long too. i think they need space to play and run. bentley never could do crate training because he pooped in his crate at night and rolled in it all night whining. after THAT episode and sleepless MESSY night we just put him in our bed and he never made a peep and slept soundly and perfectly ever since. my advise is to stand your ground. tell the trainer if she brings it up again you are done with her class. |
The trainer is probably really sold on crate training and it really works for her. She's just inexperienced and does not realize that just because she loves it, not everyone else does. If she is otherwise okay and your dog is having a good experience, I would just smile and tell her to stop asking about it. |
