I can't believe that my Gucci bite me tonight.. She was mauling on a plastic bottle and was chewing at the cover. I went to pull it away and she snapped at my hand and bit me I bled a little. She never did this before..What am I to do? She is 15 mts. old She is what is called resource guarding. Get her into obedience and work on everything comes from me and you ask. So supper is given only after she sits or downs, and out to pee same thing and play toy same thing, on the bed same thing down or sit or spin. This will only get worse if you do not get on it. She got a reaction from you when she bite and she knows it. It is not that she wants the upper hand it is that she feels that you do not set rules and she making them for herself. You are not a bad owner and I am no way saying you are. It happens to the best of us. Start carefully giving her toys and asking for them back. Using a really nice food treat, give her the food when she gives up the toy and then give back the toy.Use the food treat to encourage the dropping of the toy. Right after the food is ate. It teaches her that if I give something up nicely good things happen and I get my toy back as well. Also do not let this one be alone with kids and food or toys. It will set her up to make a mistake with a child. I have a ton of good books PM me and I can get you some titles. I am away right now or I would post them for you now. Joy |

Sometimes Maggie tries to show off. I tell her in a stern voice "No, No, Bad Dog" She knows then I mean business. Then it's try to impress Mommy by passing out kisses. |
Thank you. They haven't started growling at me when I take things yet. I am sure that will come. Right now they keep running away from me. That is hard to take because they have been out for a while and I need to do something. It is a little funny though. |
Why not a booth camp ? |
When she bites you, hold her muzzle shut firmly while scolding her and do this until she calms down or doesn't struggle. This shows you are the dominant one in the relationship. This is similar to what her doggy momma would do so it teaches her that shes not to do that to her boss. Hope this helps :) |

Yeah, I agree that the best trick to use is to pull your hand away quickly and say "Ouch! No bite!" loudly. The effect is more to startle the dog. |
Well you yell and startle the little one and scare her half to death but in the process of pulling you hand away, she was yet to open her mouth. Now you have a bigger bite. there is a safer way to handle it without big a bully. It is straight up resource guarding and needs handling a different way. |
