Should I take his toy away from him? When I first brought Bailey home he was a little over 9 weeks and right aways he started humping this certain toy. He will be 9 months old on Jan 12th and he was neutered at about 6 months. The problem is he will still on occasion hump this certain toy, he'll take the toy on to the bed at night and he gets pretty rambunctious with it, Usually I take the toy from him because I get scared that he will fall off the bed..well, yesterday he got his toy again and he was humping it on the bed, he ended up humping himself right off the bed, I was on the phone at the time and it scared me to death, I hung up the phone to check him, thankfully he wasn't hurt, but my fear came true. Do you think I should take the toy away for good instead of time outs? He loves this toy and when he doesn't have it he goes around sniffing everywhere trying to find it:rolleyes: He doesn't always hump it either, just occasionally. I feel so bad taking away his toy, he is such a sulky baby without it. Anyone else have this problem? I thought humping stopped after neutering, but with Bailey it didn't. |
4 Attachment(s) my dex has a love affair with a certain toy too and we let him have it what the heck lol - it is his favorite toy soccer ball - he has his way with it every morning lol can you tell he is in love with this toy? |
My female bull terrier has a huge stuffed pig she likes to have her way with. We don't let her play with it too often, she doesn't know when to stop :p |

us too, my axle has his favorite bear that he too has and is humping, just had him fixed a week ago and he seems to be doing it more, I read on here that this is bad behaviour, but how can you really punish them for this? hopefully more posts will come up on this one....he has a bunch of those little tiny toys to play with but his favorite is his bear which is 3 x his size. |

I don't think it's necessarily bad behavior, it is basically a dominance thing, and is fine unless he is trying to hump you!..at least that is my understanding:) I want Bailey to stop because he may fall off the bed again and hurt himself. |
I noticed tonight while Toby and Speedy were playing that Toby was humping Speedy! I firmly said NO and he stopped but as they continued playing he did it again. He's been neutered for over a year. Is it still a dominance thing? This is the first time I've seen him do it. |
2 Attachment(s) George has a purple teddy he loves, he's had teddy since he was a baby (1 now) and after he has a play date with his girlfriends teddy gets a good one!;) I really don't have the heart to take it away, but if he was going to fall off the bed I'd put him on the floor (but teddy stays in his bed not mine) |

Dexter is SOOO CUTE!!! He has those puppy eyes that you just can't say no to! =___= |
I have a friend w/a spayed female yorkie (age 3) that has a teddy bear that she humps one time or another during the day...I've heard it's just a dominance thing...Apple never did that, and I'm good w/that lol, and Debbie, my friend, is o.k. w/her Bella humping her favorite teddy bear...I guess it's all in what you are willing to live with, put up with, or think is best for your little Bailey...About the bed, I wish, so much, that I could let Apple sleep w/me, but she doesn't for the same reason, she'll fall or jump off the bed..I've tried teaching her the steps, and she won't use them, so she sleeps on her puff ball w/the snugglesafe hot water bottle inside it...Buzz sleeps in his little kennel w/no gate on it... |
I say let them have their toy. I had a maltese that had a favorite stuffed bunny that he liked (loved) at lot. Sometimes their love affair was not pretty; but he never tried to hump another dog, or another person, or anyone's leg . . . . he was happy with his bunny and I let him keep it. Of course, their affair had a very sad ending. I took Casper (with his bunny) to board for a week-end and they thought they would do us a favor by washing the love bunny. Casper would never touch it again after that. I guess it wasn't true love after all. Casper never had another 'friend' after that. |
Zeke is neutered and he still humps. He likes to do it right before bedtime. |
Well last night Bailey was in the mood to hump his toy, As soon as I got into bed, Bailey runs up the ramp with it and starts in right away, I was afraid he would fall off the bed again, and I couldn't sleep with that on my mind, so I took it from him and first hid it in the night table, he kept going up and down the ramp looking at me and then the night table and whining, I ended up putting it in another room and closing the door! Finally he stopped his whining and started chewy his bully stick:rolleyes: It is strange, he never humps anything else, I'm happy about that!! |
Well, I guess as long as you're paying the bills, you need to be making the rules lol...I always grin, everytime you mention little bailey walking up and down that ramp...I remember when you first got him, you said he was trucking up and down, all night long, moving his toys up and down...I don't think he weighed more than a 1 1/2 lbs....I remember thinking "oh my, what a good mama"...I'd be having a fit, wanting to go to sleep ...I, totally, think if his pre-bed antics concern you and his safety, his "friend" needs to sleep in the other room, at the very least, for his own safety...Maybe, first thing in the morning, they can redezvous, outside the bedroom lol..:p |

feed to that type of behavior, we dont no we are but it does, i would take it from him and for a while he will crie but give him smaller chew toy, he will soon forget. |
SAME THING WITH BANDIT!!! He humps the stuffed duck he had since he was a puppy. He was neutered when he was 7 months but still continued to hump only that. Once he humped it so much his red rocket got stuck out and we had to use lube to get it back it:eek: |
3 Attachment(s) Gizmo was neutered around 6-7 months and he still humps his fav toy. DH had gotten him a sock monkey doll when we first brought him home and it is the ONLY thing that he humps. He doesn't do it too often, he plays tug of war with it and whips it around (oh and it is almost as big as he is!) and then he gets excited and will hump it. Or if DH is playing with him, he'll beat the sock monkey on the floor and say "bad mr. monkey!" then throw it, then Gizmo will run after it and start humping it (LOL)!! After the first Mr. Monkey was decapitated and had all the stuffing pulled out of its head, Gizmo was monkeyless for about a month and didn't hump anything, then we bought him a new one and he immediately started to hump it! Boy does he love his sock monkey!!! He is on his third monkey now! |

Toby my pom mix has a piggy toy he is extra special friends with  He does not do it much so it is really no big deal for us but if you feel like it is going to cause him to get hurt I would take it away... guess dogs can have obsessions as well lol |
