What age was your puppy "potty-trained"? Hey all, I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread telling what age your yorkie was litter, paper, weewee pad, and housebroken. :) I think it would give alot of us with new puppies and first time puppies encouragement/hope about getting our little furbabies trained!!! ;) Thanks in advance! :aimeeyork |
Good idea. My little pup is 6 mos old and sometimes doing well, mostly not. My chihuahua is 2 and still has problems sometimes when excited. I had a 15 year old girl that passed recently and she was almost completely broken by 6 mos old. I know they are all different but winter is coming and it will only get worse if I don't get a handle on it. |
I consider myself pretty lucky; I brought mine home at around 8 weeks and he was already doing it on paper. So far, he has never pee on the floor except poo once on my kitchen mat. I let him run freely in my kitchen and family room when I'm home and I've an X-pen where he stays there when we're not home and he pees on the newspaper. So, for a 13 weeks old puppy, he's pretty good. |
I am extraordinarily lucky. :D I brought Trevor home at 8 weeks old. By the time he was 3 months, he was totally housebroken.... but I have a doggy door and older dogs to show him the ropes. He's had total run of the house for the last 9 months and has NEVER had an accident in the house. Cyndie Trevor's Mom |
Housebroken? Potty trained? What do those words mean? He's going to be ONE in 3 weeks. |
Tinkerbell is about 9 months old. I consider her potty trained but wouldn't trust her with the run of the house yet. |
Toby is 3 months on Sunday. He goes outside most of the time, but sometimes he has accidents. He was going on the weewee pad when I would forget to let him out, but I think he was getting the hint that he was supposed to go outside, and started going potty by the door. So I moved the weewee pad by the door, and he started going where his weewee pad used to be...????? I keep him in a crate all day while we are at work, and leave him out at night (he sleeps with us). He was doing good and able to hold it for like 7 hours, but Tues. he peed in there. I know this is too long to leave him in there, but have exhausted all other options. Plus I started putting water in there with him, which I think hindered more than it helped. He is left in his crate for 7 hours 3 days a week. |
Magic was fully trained at about 5-6 months...she learned to go outside really quickly and was allowed in the whole house by 4 months...she now only has accidents on rainy days!! Sailor was a little harder...she was probably full trained at 8 months but still has accidents sometimes....but now she goes outside most of the time and that has really helped... We still have two pee pads down, one by each door..and they still use them but they no longer have accidents on the floor at all!! |
Hey guys! Well Gizmo is the same way, he is 13weeks old today!!! Happy Birthday Giz!! And he goes on his potty pads and "sometimes" poops on them but we are getting there... I was lucky too, I have had previous pups that would just shredd those pads!! P.S We are thinking of getting him a little sista she's 8 weeks old.. what do ya'll think???? |
Potty Trained....what that?? No Bailey is really good,,but every now and then I find a #2 present,,but I'd rather have those anyday,,than #1... ... Usually it is MY fault when we have these accidents,, so I take the blame. :( |
Bella is seven months old. If it isn't raining then she is potty trained. If its raining well.... she is at work with me today and tickled at my feet on the plastic that my chair rolls on. |
POTTY TRAINED... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH AHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH :p :p :p |
Lilly is 8 weeks and only goes potty on her pee pee pads, she goes poop there also :) SO I feel lucky but if she isn't around her pad she will have an accident if we arn't watching her completely, which doesn't happen much. I have only had her for 1 week and cant believe how well she is doing. I am hoping to train her to use the pads outside on my deck so I can have my guest bathroom back lol. |
Potty Trained? Yeah RIGHT.... Lexi is 8 months old, just turned this week and we are still haveing problems. We travel ALOT; "military family" when we are on the road and in hotels she does great, no accidents at all when we were on the road for 10 days but once we get back into a routine accidents start again. #1 is not as common as #2. We can go weeks with no #1 accidents but #2 i find all over every day....i have no clue when she does it either; I can't catch her in the act. My mother says she needs her privacy(Ha ha) WHO KNEW yorkies are #2 shy. So anyway, she is 8 months and we are still trying. |
When we picked up Yoda at 1 day before 8 weeks he was going potty on the wee wee pads and has continued to do so... He only had a FEW accidents when he was younger...He prefers to go on wee wee pads, but will also go outside :D |
brownie was 9 weeks katko was 9 weeks austin is 5 months the only reason it took so long with austin is cause i tryed the pads and they did not work so i had to train him all over again to go out he has accidents when im not listening to him telling me he has to go hes getting better at holding it |
Gidget (poodle, deceased) was given to me at 7mos, she was pretty good at that point. Satia (sheperd/wolfhound mix, also deceased) was trained 7 days after we brought her home, she was 8wks, just an incredible dog! Montana (Golden Ret) was about 5 months til she was trained, love her alot, but she's just not the sharpest knife in the drawer! Kansas (Jack Russell) was also about 5 months. She was my first experience with a terrier. They are soooo smart, but also have mind of their own. She potty trained when SHE was ready! Hunter (German Shep) was trained at 10 weeks, he's very smart and REALLY wants to please people. Now, my Yorkie, Indiana, is 7 1/2 mos and not completely trained. He was doing pretty good til he had his liver shunt surgery and then we kind of back slid. This past week has been our best. He has only had a couple accidents and I am getting better at reading his signs. All my dogs have been trained to go outside. I have never used the pads or paper. |
This made my day!!! Quote:

we got toby when he was 12 weeks old...... he was compeltely potty trained by six or seven months old..... (he is a year old now) |
Kacee was three months. :) |
Chewy is 7 months old and has gone on the pee pad for a while now. Since he was about 5 months I have had no pee problems. Poo on the other hand is not that good. He will poo about 60% of the time on the pad. I really don't know how to remedy this but I think a little turd is better than tons of pee on my rugs... |
Riley and TJ are both litter box trained. Riley was pretty much perfect at 6-7 months. TJ is 7 months old and (up until today) hasn't had an accident for 2-3 weeks. Unfortunately, there was a lot of stuff going on at the house today and he had three accidents, so as you can see, we are still working on getting him potty trained. :D |
Bentley is 5 mos. yesterday and a work in progress. He has hit this stubborn phase where he givens no signs and all the sudden there it is. He also has a habit of peeing 3 times, whether out or not. Sometimes we are lucky and find the 1st round quick enough to get him outside for 2 and 3. We have apad down near the front door but he almost never uses it. We also have a schnauzer and have been getting him wound up to go out until he barks hoping that Bentley will catch on too. |
Gucci is a year old and is pee pad train. She pretty much uses the pad all the time but if is soil she pees in the edge so it hits the floor. SO I have to make sure to chenge it often. She poos on the pads also but sometimes they get stuck on her hair and I dont notice and I will find it in another part of the apt. I prefer to pick those up, is mush easier than pee. SO I will say she is 98% trained with the occasional accident that are my fault. |
Potty trained hummmmmmmm ??? lol lets see Gucci has been trained since 6 mts. but she has accidents only with number two, and she is now 15 mts.old. She is trained to go outside also, but now with the weather changing she will be inside and hopefully I have to retrain her to do number two on wee wee pad.. She knows when she she is wrong for she hides from me.. <the cutest scene> when she is hiding I know she went to the bathroom where she wasn't suppose to...lol These yorkies are soo intelligent, but Stubborn..lol Gina |
Princess was a year old, I thought it would never happen!!!! :) |
Fagan is almost 6 months old and is also still a work in progress although I think we are getting there. About 2-3 weeks ago he started yipping/whining at the door to go outside and has been consistant with it although we still take him out without him "asking" after sleep, eating and play. He has been accident free for a couple of weeks now. I still keep a close eye on him when he's not in the kitchen and we still have baby gates up in the kitchen. We also use an x-pen when we will be gone for a while and then he uses pee pads, but is able to "hold it" longer now. :animal36 |
Faith Doodles is 6 months old and doing pretty good with the wee wee pads, still an accident here and there but Im sure it will stop soon! |
I was just thinking that this question should have been asked in two parts, because some of us have someone home with them all day, like I do, and others are HOME ALONE! It does make a difference, so I don't think you will get as good of a picture of things without knowing that, too. ;) |
He's 7 months old and 80% there! Good luck with yours, remember to be patient and always positive reinforcement. I find giving my yorkie a treat after he goes outside does the trick. |
