Debarking?!?! Is this HUMANE???? I don't think so! I went to a "reputable" breeder in Toronto, and she does all her dogs...:thumbdown when they bark they sound like squeaky toys. She told me that the vet just put a little tool down thier throat and burned out thier vocal chords:mad: I HATE THIS IDEA. What do you think? |
I hate that idea it sure is cruel to do that to these lil furbabies,,,, I'd rather hear the real bark than the squeaky toy |
And this is a reputable breeder! Not in my book! Any person who breeds dogs of anykind should love them, not maim them! Yes, I have heard this and think it's inhumane. Dogs were given a voice for a reason. It's up to the owner to see that they use it only when necessary. To go this route is just plain cruel and lazziness on the part of the breeder/ owner. IMO. I wouldn't do business with her if she were the last Yorkie breeder in the world! |
While I think it's cruel and shouldn't be done I don't hold it against a "good" breeder if that is their choice as I know a couple of "EXCELLENT" breeders that have on occassion. Would I do it NO WAY!!! But I wouldn't exclude a good breeder just because of their choice. JMHO Donna Bird Brooklynn's Yorkshire Terriers |
It is cruel! Itt is unusal to hear of a breeder doing it but not a puppymiller. Its pretty common for them |

I think its very cruel...you dont hear parents going out and cutting the cords on their kid. Why dogs? Its their way of communicating. If people can't handle a dog barking then people shouldn't have them JMO |

That was out of neccessity to keep their dog but for a breeder to debark a litter of puppies, I am sure she's not keeping them all, before they are placed, is cruel! IMO. There are many reasons for doing whatever but a new litter of puppies, no reason that I can see. |

Debarking a whole litter seems like a ploy to sell barkless dogs that are otherwise known as "yappers." It's a shame. We have two clients with debarked dogs and the poor things are just frustrated to heck. Barking is a form of communication. I think it's just as bad as declawing cats. It takes away part of what makes the animal an animal. I know sometimes it's a necessity for the dog to have a home, but I think it should only be used in that situation. To me, a barkless puppy could end up having other behavioral issues because he can't get his emotions or frustrations out by barking! |
I knew a family once that wanted a dog but had a baby, so they got the dog and debarked him, as not to "wake the baby". |
I think it is horrible!! My Daisy is a barker ever since we got Pixie and I would Never even think of doing something so cruel. Trust me sometimes Daisy annoys the you know what out of me with her barking but I just tell her no bark. sometimes she listens. lol Today she kept barking and barking over nothing I finally yelled at her and I never yell at her and she stopped dead in her tracks like............uh oh I really peed her off now! It was nice to have her stop for once. |
Did she give a reason why she did that? I would think barking is something that can be fixed with a bit of training. My first thought when I read your post was that she was trying to hide the dogs from her neighbors. Maybe she is breeding dogs in a residential neighborhood where there could legal issues as a result of running a business out of her home. If no one can hear the dogs then there would be no questions asked by the neighbors or the town. |
