This may sound harsh, but it's my opinion... I would NEVER debark one of my dogs. I would NEVER buy from a breeder who debarked their dogs. I wouldn't even be friends with someone who has debarked their dog. That is how much the whole idea of debarking disturbs me. It just seems cruel and unnecessary. I have owned dogs that have barked alot, and successfully managed to train them to bark less. It takes time and patience. I'm sorry if that offends anyone who has debarked their dog. |
I think it's a cruel and unnecessary thing to do to a dog. Besides, most dogs that are "debarked" still make sounds.. and they usually sound terrible. It's almost like a honking bark. |
I would personally like to remove the Larynx of people who debark their animals. This is nothing but Nasty and Cruel. |
I think Its SAD and MEAN and doesnt matter if its done while the dog is put to sleep for dental or not .... I think we all know some people that talk to much or just say things that make no sense at all but i wouldnt wish they had there voice box snatched or anything like that while they went for a dental visit, it just isnt right i and i dont think its fair :( but thats my opinion |

What about the VETS that do this?! What reputable vet would sever vocal cords in a healthy animal for the owners whims? I would be investigating the VETS that did this and not patronizing them as well as not buying from a breeder who debarked. It is cruel and it is inhumane. |

Oh this just bothers me on so many levels! It's just so sad! I mean barking can get on anyone's nerves, but it IS the way dogs communicate! I just think it's cruel and I would not buy from a breeder who has done this either! :( :thumbdown |
I agree with everyone else. I think it's mean and horrible and would not want to purchase from a breeder who 'debark' all of their dogs. Have you ever heard one that's been 'debarked" I have and it makes a horrible sound. Terrible. |

yea well i know a breeder in Austin who has gone out of breeding because she couldn't stand all her yorkies barking. 6 of them were cut she wasn't even supposed to have that many. After 15 litters she sold them all:mad: |
My boyfriends parents did this to one of their two dogs. I met the dog before it had the "procedure" and the barking was a bit out of control... i guess... I call the first week I had my dog "hell week". It was so hard to be consistant every second of the day. It was well worth it. I had to train myself more than I had to train my dog. now I have a dog who has no idea what people food is (no begging at the table) and actually listens to me. if I say drop she drops. if I say stay... she stays. she recently has found her voice and I feel a quick "Psssssst!" does the trick. Well that and I never give her what she wants when she is barking. again, I had to train myself. It takes time and it can be very frustrating but worth it in the end. Their dog did not sound like a "squeek toy" I used to joke that it had "hooker voice" (a bit inappropriate? eep!) I joked that it sounded as if their dog was asking me if I had "a menthol, hun" :P it had a very raspy-like bark. weird enough, its bark actually came back. huh  |

How selfess! Wonder if they thought of de-crying their baby when it cried and bothered them! |
I want a dog that can bark to alert me if there's a problem. How many times do you hear about a dog that won't stop barking in the middle of the night, and their owner finally gets up to see what's the matter and the house is on fire or something. |
