| Need help/advice! Franky was doing such a great job! He used to go on his pad all of the time, but lately he's starting to go around the edges and sometimes right next to the pad. He knows to go on his pad and we reward/praise when he does. When we leave him alone for a couple of hours he'll pee right next to his pad instead of on it. Could he be lashing out for leaving him alone? Please, any advice will be greatly appreciated! |

| Daisy does that alot, too. I am happy if she gets close. I started putting a bigger cloth pad under the disposable one and it seems to help keep her on target. (not always, but helps) Lately, she has been barking to go outside to potty. I am thrilled about that and take her. Just want to keep the pee pad thing going for times we have to leave her alone.

| Rily misses the pad sometimes too, but my motto is "Close not only counts with horseshoes but peepads too." At lease he is in the ball park, hehe. I reward him for trying!! But, then sometimes he goes on a rug instead. Oh well, he's only 5 months old...we'll get there!

My Lil Man! Donating Member | I dont think he is lashing out...he may just not realize he isnt gettin all the way on the pee pad...Reeses used to do the same thing...sometimes he would pee on pad and other times he would get his front feet on but not back feet and would pee and hit right at the edge. We didnt scold him tho b/c he thought he was doing it right and we didnt want to steer him away. You might could try putting two pads side by side to make a bigger pad. Just an idea! |

| When my cutie got to 'going' pretty close, most of the time... I gave treats for a "hit" and just attaboys for a near hit... he figured it out!

| How old is Franky? I wouldn't recommend leaving him alone, even for a few minutes if he isn't housetrained. Crate training would be helpful, unless you are playing with him or directly watching him. Someone else on the site suggested wrapping the dog's leash around your waist (or looping it around your ankle if you're seated) so that you know exactly where the dog is and can keep an eye on him. I know it sounds like a total pain... but if a puppy gets into the habit of soiling the floor when he's a puppy, it's sooooo difficult to correct that habit as he gets older. My current dog is 5 months old and she is either in her crate (for short periods of time), walking with me, playing with me, or in her window seat basket (where she can play with toys and watch the neighborhood out the window) while I work at my home desk next to it. I NEVER let her wander around without me directly watching her. If she starts to get into potty position, I make a little "uh-oh" gasp and scoop her up to take her outside immediately. Then I say "go potty" while she's doing her business and praise her and give her a little treat. If I need to leave, I take her for a good walk so she can do her business, then put her in her crate until I come back. (She has water, a snack, and toys in there.) No negative feedback, just supervision, routines, and rewards. :-) Last edited by mommyofsophie; 09-09-2009 at 06:24 PM. |

| they do not l;ash out atyou for leaving them alone. He is a baby and he is trying to do right, he just does not know that he is missing. some people use pee pad holders, that might define the edges a bit more. I've also put objects all around the pads to get them to go completely on it. Mine miss sometimes too, they see that their front feet are on, they just don't know that the back feet need to be also |
