Can someone PLEASE HELP ME!!!! 2nd Post... 2 Attachment(s) I know that I've posted this already but no one seem to help me and I just don't know what to do anymore.... I bought the book How to housebreak your dog in 7 days waste of 8 bucks it was... She already knows how to go on pee pad what I need her to do is to leave her poop alone and I just dont know what to do..... Okay my Roxy is about 8 1/2 months old now... She is a little stubborn/ spoiled/cute/demon/ (did I mention spoiled LOL!!!! ) yorkie... I am having such a hard time with her.. Sometimes I don't know what it is that I am doing wrong. She has the training thing down with the pee and poop on pad. My only concern now is her playing with her poop like its a stuff toy.. I don't know how many toys I have to buy her so she can be entertained. I'm going broke buying all these cleaners and paper towel to clean up after her. She has access to the kitchen and the bedroom.. My apt is really small so there isn't enough room. I would have given her access to the whole house but decided not to because I don't have enough closet space to puppy proof it. And I know that dogs get curious as to what is what LOL!!! Below are pictures of what my kitchen and her gate looks like. When I leave her and if she has to poop OMG I leave for 2 hours and come back I have a HUGE mess.. I'm talking about I'm gagging cleaning it up because its all over the floor and in the grout YUK!!!!!! I am eager to know what you might suggest that I can do for her. Not only does she play with it but if she is up to it she will eat it  for that I have tried. Deter I have tried nasty habits I have tried pineapple chunks, juice, hot sauce, pumpkin, EVERYTHING I just don't know what to do anymore. I wanted to crate train her but its pointless because she just poops and pee's in there. Even though its just big enough for her to turn and lay down in. I'm out of options I don't know what to do. I'm going out of my mind and did I mention broke :( Attachment 287175 The door you see in pic is my bedroom which she has steps to get on and off of the bed..... Attachment 287176 See the discoloring in my moldings thats her boredom as well.. LOL!!! |
I am so sorry you having so much trouble with this!:( I wish I had some magic advice to give you, but I have never dealt with this before. I hope someone can help you though. |
How often do you take her outside? You could try taking her out more often and then rewarding her with praise and chicken immediately after going. Also, if you have to leave and really can't take the poo and pee you could put her in the bathroom and cover the floor real good with newspaper and then wee wee pads everywhere. Cleaning the floor real real good with vinegar or bleach will take that smell out so she doesn't return. I was going to suggest pineapple but it looks like she enjoys it...lol. You've probable heard all that before so maybe someone else can help? I'll try and think of other things as well. |
She isn't trained to go outside. I started her off on pee pads but now I want to start to take her out. I work from 7am to 430 or 5pm at times I try really hard to come home at lunch to check on her but sometimes its hard. I have to find a way to control her pooping habits so that she can only poop 2 times a day does that sound normal? Before she would poop in morning and then again at night and now it seems like she poops morning noon and night LOL!!! She's a pooping machine... One thing I do want to do that the book suggested is give her only 15-20 mins to eat and then I'll take her food away usually I'll leave her food in the kitchen with her so she has access to eat all day.... She never eats her breakfast so thats why I leave it but from looks of it. She's gonna have to learn I guess right? Do I sound harsh? I don't wanna be a mean mommy :( |
Can you crate train her, hire a dog walker to come in some days, and commit to taking her out at lunch the other days? It's really hard to train them without a schedule, and the only way to convince her not to play with her poop is to prevent her from having poop to play with. |
Does she do it when you are home or just when she is alone? If she does it when you are home when she poops praise her and then if she goes for it (sticks her nose in it, paws at it, etc.) tell her "leave it." When she does praise her and give her a treat. Then pick it up and dispose of it. This will teach her that its better to leave it because she gets a tastier treat. :) Thats all I got...but I'm sure others will have more suggestions! |
Yeah I'm gonna try that.. I tried it when she was younger but she would pee and poop in the crate guess since she was so young but hoping that now she is older she can hold it longer. I wish I could hire a dog walker but times are rough for me and I live alone. So I'm gonna have to come home to take her out. I want to start the training starting Monday that way we can get a full week OR is Sunday better? I need to come up with a schedule to take her out.... |
Yes, come up with a schedule, and I would start Saturday (if you aren't starting today), so you can have the weekend to set it up. She's going to need to be in her crate almost all the time at first, but after a few weeks, she'll be out and about. :) |
Now the part that I want to understand about crate training does she need to be in the crate even when I am home? Like for the first couple of weeks is she only allowed to come out when its time for us to go outside and time for play time and food? |
Although you still need to work the training options, I have poop eaters too!! Reaching my wit's end, I talked to the vet. He told me he could sell me some stuff but what he really recommened was Cains Meat Tenderizer. You can get it in the spice isle at the grocery store. It needs to be that brand. After trying pumpkin, pineapple, nasty habit pills, etc., this worked for us. Be sure it is Cains and I would sprinkle it on their evening canned food we serve them. We have done it for several months. It has worked like a charm. It is working to the point that, for various reasons, I have not given them any for a few weeks and we have not had any poop eating!! :cheer: I don't know if it will help with the playing part, I would think it might but at a $1 or 2, it would be worth a try!! Good Luck!! |
It depends... basically, if you actively watching her, she needs to be in the crate, until you know you can trust her to use her pad. She should come running to you afterwards for her treat. In your case, you want to be sure she is not playing with her poo either. |

After trying so many things I'll try anything once.. I'm gonna go tomorrow after work to get that meat tenderizer thanks for that tip. The only thing is that I give her soft beneful food but I mix a little with her hard Eukanuba food do you think thats bad? Quick silver I was typing up a schedule can you guys give me some input on what you think? 5:30am Potty 5:45am give her food and water 6:05am potty 6:15am-6:40am playtime 6:45am-12:30pm crate (mommy goes to work) 12:30pm-1:00pm potty, playtime 1:00pm-4:45pm crate mommy back to work 4:50pm potty 5:10pm-6:30-crate 6:30pm potty 6:45pm dinner time 8:00pm-8:45pm crate (mommy n daddy dinnertime) 8:50pm Potty 9:10pm-10:00pm playtime 10:00pm potty, crate bedtime |
I once had Capone trained pretty well on pee pads/litter box but I decided to teach him to go outside and it's much easier, but he will never use it in his x pen unless he's sick. Once I got him to realize its ok to go outside he never uses the house (saved tons on pee pads and carpet cleaning) I think free feeding is making her poop more. I know you said you're on a budget, but maybe you can see if your area has doggie daycare, it's not as expensive as you might think. I give them some of the credit for Capone using the bathroom outside. Good Luck. |

Secondly I would get up early try to take her out for a walk to pee, come in get ready for work and before you leave maybe she will have to poop OUTSIDE ,give her extra special treats for pooping outside. I think the gated off area you have is great but she is obviously bored if she is chewing walls and playing with poop... try a couple of puzzle toys, a bully stick and a kong, maybe those will keep her busy.. If you cant afford a dog walker maybe you have a teenage in your neighborhood that would like to earn 10-15 bucks a week for coming in and playing with her and taking her for a quick walk..;) |
No offense to kids BUT there really isn't any kids on my block that I can trust to come into my house when I'm not home.... I agree that its way to long to leave her in the crate but I once had a x pen for her and what she would do is tear up all her pee pads. Believe me she has WAY to many toys she has rubber toys and stuffed animals. Bully sticks I keep reading about that I need to get her some to see... She has this thing that is rubber with a treat inside of it she plays with that for hours but she does get really bored... I guess what I really need is for her not to eat and or play with her poop..I want to leave her in the gated kitchen but I'm closing the door to my bedroom.. Today I found a spot on the bed because she is apparently taking the poop on bed to eat  |
I would get an xpen or keep her in the kitchen with a gate until you get home. Set up her food and water far away from the pee pad and you might put a bed in there as well and of course toys.:) When you are home, you might try tethering her(hope is spelled that right.) She needs to get out from her confined space but needs to be with you. You can tie her to your waste and the length of the heavy string or rope can be as long as it works for you. It's a pain but they can't pee when you are not there. Then set a timer to get her out at certain times, maybe 1 hr apart. These dogs as adults have tiny bladders and as a puppy they need to go out often. I might mention if she is beginning to let you no by going to the door, I would not even think of the tethering. You will need help through the day. Good Luck. |

I think if you change her to a better quality food, she won't be pooping so much. The food you are feeding her is full of alot of fillers which will make them poop alot. Crate training is the best way to go, but you do have a problem with being gone for too long for her to hold it all day. Maybe once you get her on better food, and use the meat tenderizer, that will help. My 2 usually one poop once maybe 2 times a day. |
What foods are good? I thought Eukanuba was the best? I'm sorry I know I'm clueless but this is my first pup..... |
I think your schedule is good. You want to take her out ~15 minutes after drinking to pee, and about 1 hour after eating to poop. Feed her twice / day for 15 minutes each. I agree that your schedule is not ideal for a pup. You'll need to do everything you can to get home at lunch, because she is going to mess her crate if you don't. After after she messes her crate, it will be easier to for her to do it again, etc. You're going to need to focus a lot of attention on her when you're not working to make up for the time she spends alone. Try to get more creative about what you can do -- any neighbors who have a dog who can do some casual dog sitting? Doggy daycare 1x / week? I have read that exercise + mental training tires them out the most. If you can, I would take her for out for 45 minutes in the morning to for a vigorous, disciplined walk. This would kill me as I am a night owl, but I get to take my dog to work. :) Then 15 minutes of play + training at lunch, then another 30 when you get home. She will probably be tired most of the day and able to adjust to that. There are also timers that will drop toys down to your dog every hour or two hours. That would only work if she were out of the crate, though. |
I like ur idea.. I gotta look into the drop the toy thing.. I don't know about the 45 mins walks in the morning I start work at 7am and by waking up at 530 its still dark out. LOL I'm gonna look into a day care around my way I highly doubt it the only place is petsmart and thats to far for me.... |
Hi, I give my furbabies Wellness, they go poop in the a.m. and evening, they are fed 2x a day. I leave Lexie in a childs x pen, Walmart.com: North State - Superyard XT Portable Playard and Gate: Gear like this but with 4 panels, in it is her bed, water, toys and a pipi pad. This xpen sits on top of a thick plastic that I purchased at the fabric store, it is wider then the xpen so Lex can't take a corner and chew on it. This plastic is her floor and it makes for easy clean up. I leave the radio on for her when I am away. There is a product called forbid that you put on their food and it keeps them from eating it. I hope this helps. Good luck. |

Camp bow wow has a bunch of loctaions, thats where I take Capone. See if there are any near you. campbowwow.com I know your frustrations, I work all day and it was really hard at first to get him on a good schedule. But I think she can hold it for a few hours if you let her out right before work, then come home on your lunch. |
Have you considered feeding Nature's Variety raw?? The food is a bit more expensive but you can try feeding them this in the morning (and dry kibble at night), so that when your furbaby poops in the afternoon it would be hard solid poop. I've tried feeding Cassi this, but unfortunately her digestive tract did not do well on it. When Cassi was on raw her poop came out really small/hard/dry and she also pooped alot less. I believe when the poop is really hard/dry...it should make it less edible. Also I highly recommend picking up a few bully sticks. This could keep your furbaby entertained. The bully stick should last you a few days. One of the YT member currently has the bully stick on sale (see link below). I usually get the 6.5" long for my 5 lbs and 2.8 lbs furbabies and it last them 4-5 days. Good luck!!! ;) http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...tick-sale.html |
:thumbup:Good points from QuickSilver and Capone We just started feeding our boy 2x daily and got away from "free" feeding. It will get him on a schedule and hopefully make things easier on you. Don't think that he'll starve, he won't, he'll pick up on that one quick:D We keep ours in the crate from 830-530, hubby come home for lunch every day for an hour and he gets out and plays, and does his business. He actually LOVES his crate, when we go out on the weekend for a few hours or so, we leave him out only to come back and find him inside the crate, HA:D Good luck to you. |
I really appreciate everyones feedback I think Sunday I'll start her out and see. I would start her on Saturday but she has a groom appt on Saturday hehe :D I'm def going to look into those bully sticks. They look like something she would love especially if its treats that she has to lick and bite at... She for some reason loves a challenge.... I'm going to call the vet tomorrow and see what she recommends on food. I know they sell there Science Diet is that food good? Thanks again for everyones help..... Oh and that camp bow wow is like 40 mins away from my town :( but it def something I wanna look into.. Maybe I can send her there once a month or so that way she can have play dates.... |
I would not leave the furbaby with the bully stick, if your baby starts choking on the bully stick there is no one to help. Furbabies have issues with the bully sticks as well, I was giving my 3 some merricks flossies, 2 of them came down with a stomach bacterial infection, they had diarrhea. They were both put on antibiotics and are fine now but I am not giving them any bully sticks any time soon. Just FYI. Better foods - Wellness, Innova, Chicken soup for the puppys soul, honest kitchen.... |
yeah I would be afraid to that myself. I get worried with her now that I took away her rope chewy toys because she chews so much on them that she rips the threads off that during the night she starts to gag and I just know that its the thread of the toys.. So I took those away from her.... Thanks for the heads up... |
