| Potty Training Hello! I am new here and have a question about potty training an adult yorkie, Paisley. Long story short, I was pet sitting Paisley for a while who was not taken care of very well by her owners (picked her up once and she was so covered with fleas she was acting ill). The most recent time of watching her, her 'owners' never came back to get her, and I received a text about 6 WEEKS after picking her up, stating they were too busy for a dog and I could keep her if I wanted... I was told before she was impossible to potty train so she was left out on the porch so she didn't make a mess in the house. I don't believe that its impossible to potty train any dog, but I am having a difficult time to know where to start. She is about a year old, and weighs 3 pounds. What is the best way for me to work on potty training her? She likes to go on cool surfaces (I imagine from being kept on a porch) and my whole house is tile, so she will go any and every where. I read a lot about pee pad training, but I believe at her age that she is too old to introduce something like that? When taking her out she appears to 'hold it' outside and will go immediately once in the house, no matter how long I've walked her. She has a crate, and I have tried walking her as soon as she comes out of her crate in the morning, and she will hold it and go once she comes back in the house. Sorry for the long post. I have been working at training her for a while and just don't seem to be making any progress! Any suggestions? Thank you! Daylyn |

Hi , Congrats on your new baby .. Well she is is definitely not too old to train to use potty pads if you choose to do that .. You can even use a dog potty ( most consist of a tray with a plastic grate on top under which you put a potty pad ) . www.rascaldoglitterbox.com This is what I used for my Yorkie and it is awesome . For training to go outside you would train as you would a puppy . Take out first thing in the morning , after eating , after napping , at least every couple hours . Take her to the same spot and tell her go potty or whatever word or words you want to use . When she does praise her . I am sure you will get lots of other suggestions ..
