I think I might have to give Roxy away :( I just don't know what to do anymore.. This little puppy is spoiled rotten I have no idea what I'm doing with a dog... This is my first dog and I don't know if I'm doing everything right. I just cant seem to train her. She was going on the pad with no problem but now lately she tears her pads up. I left to go to Target I was gone for about 2 hours she was in her pen with her bed pad and food. I came home to her with her pad ripped up her bed flipped the zipper ripped open and her bed the foam eaten. I leave her with her toys I just don't know anymore when I leave the house I leave her a light on and a radio on... What am I doing wrong... She just doesn't seem to get it. I hate punishing her but I feel like she won't learn. Then everytime I leave the house I have to clorox the floor because since she rips the pad there's poo and pee everywhere.. I just don't know anymore.... She is going on 4 months and she just doesnt seem to get it...:(:( |
That is what puppies do. They tear up everything they can. I would get the cloth pee pads and maybe leave a kong filled with peanut butter (put in freezer in kong). Conner was not fully potty trained until he was 9 months old. No punishment - just positive reinforcement. |
I tried the kong and peanut butter but she kind of didn't like it.... Cloth I tried that once and she rips the cloth so bad that she ate the threads :( I mean it was a kitchen towel so I don't know if its the same thing or not.... |
How much excersice does she get? People seem to think that because Yorkies are small they do not need a lot of excersise. Do you walk her outside? In my case Milo becomes a shreeder when he is not getting enough excersise and I am not walking him enough. Can you or do you walk outside for at least 15 min. 2 x a day? |
yes i have a 10 week old and she is very spoiled she does poo on the weeweee pad but not pee i dont put her in my bed to sleep cuz she is little and i dont want to hurt her but i am with her everyday she takes my shoe's away and stuff but my bingo takes my shoe's and stuff if he wants to be spitfull thats like his way of saying take me out but i love them to much and im willing to deal with there ways i hope everything works out for u:animal-pa |
I haven't taken her out because its still a little to cold in Jersey I can't wait for the weather to warm up so I can take outside... She's so little she is only 3.8 lbs. So the cold for her is to much.. |
I have all mine pee pad trained, they go through the "tearing up" stage, it's normal, she's a baby, and needs things to keep her occupied. Try keeping a tv or radio on. My 9 1/ 2 mo old has just decided to start taking off with the pee pad, luckily she's not tearing it up, and hopefully doesn't, but, if she does, I do know it doesn't last long, they outgrow it. Just give her lots of attention and love and play with her to wear her out |
I believe your puppy is going through the teething stage. This is normal behavior. It is all fun and games to her at the stage of growth. i'd advise you to buy a book on puppies, and potty training. You may consider crate training. But, need to be fully commited to training her in this method. Set a potty schedule for her, and stick to it. Buy her Bully sticks, and toys that she can chew on. If you have not done so already, puppy proof your home. Remember that potty training is not going to happen overnight. Also, there are YT members that sale washable pads on here. They may have better ideas on what to do with training such a lively little puppy. If your little one likes to tear stuff up, then can you give her stuff that she "can" tear up, that would be acceptable? alternatives? She really needs those Bully sticks, and start rewarding her with treats when she behaves. No punishing. She does not understand that anyway. You need to be very patient. |
she would be fine outside for a few minutes. I wish I could find the website I was reading the other day, where yorkies are actually a lot warmer than people think they are. Usually I bookmark those, but, didn't this time. You could put a little sweater on her. Mine is 2.3 lbs and I go out with her and let her run every 2-3 days for about 5 min |

Roxy may not have all her shots yet, but she can exercise in the house. Does she like to play fetch? The behavior you are describing is typical for a four month old puppy. I hate to tell you, but it will probably even get worse when she is a "teenager" in a few months. ;) |
ahhh....hang tight - she is a pup and she is going thru all the pup phases.... When TJ and Roxy were at the stage of making pee pads into confetti - I bought the doggie liter box and washable pee pads to go inside the box. This taught them to have to step into the box to pee/poop and it was *different* then doing potty on the carpet, and they could tear apart the washable pads ;) piddlepads.com |
I'm far from an expert-in fact, as I write, Johnny is trying to eat some dirt from a house plant! Roxy is very young and it takes time and lots and lots and lots of patience. Dogs aren't born with an understanding of what we want them to do. They have to be taught and as a first time owner, learning all you can about dog psychology and behaviors will help you communicate with each other. The posts on this site have been of enourmous help to me. Our most successful teaching-and-learning moments happened when he was "caught in the act" and he got praise or correction. Keep reading and learning about dogs and you will be successful. |
Yeah she has like 4 rubber bones I leave with her to chew on.. I do want to crate train her because eventually I want her to learn outside.. But I need to get a separater to make the kennel smaller. Because if I leave her in there she pees and poops inside there. And since I leave in an apt its hard for me to wash everyday... |

She is just a baby and you are really expecting way too much from her. If you are leaving her to have the run of the house while you are gone she is going to get into everything and have a free for all. You need to confine her either to a crate, Xpen or a small room. She is tearing things up because she is board. If you are gone for more than a few hours you cannot expect her to hold her pee and poop for longer than that. How many hours at a time are you leaving her alone? Are you taking her for walks or outside before you leave? You should not punish her for having accidents inside you house as this will accomplish nothing except that she will fear you. You need to use praise and attention when it comes to a puppy. If you are not able to give your little girl this them maybe it is time to give her to someone that will. I am not trying to judge you but at the same time, if you are not able to give love, praise and attention at this very young age she could very well never become the pet that you are hoping for. They do not just "get it" without a lot of time spent helping them "get it". |
