My Baby eating POO I can't believe I saw my new 6mth old Yorkie eating poo:eek: ,How can I stop this...I have 3 others and I never saw them eating poo. May be I just never caught them; even though I was out with them on each potty call. Help what can I do......:confused: Sheila |
mine is doing it too. I got some pills for him that is supposed to make them stop. I have been giving them to him for 5 days but he is still doing it occasionally. |

I got these from Jeffers pet supply. I am pretty sure you can get them at petsmart and from Dr's foster and smith catalog or online. Just about any pet supply place should carry them. You can also get a powder called forbid that you put on their food. The pills I got are called excel deter coprophagia teatment. |
I thought the forbidden was to give to the poo-er...Not the one eating the poo.I read that somewhere few miniutes ago....That spinkle on the food of the animal that poo is being eaten...Correct me if I misread that.... |
I only have one dog so he is the poo-er and the eater. If yours is eating the other dogs poo then yes you give it to the ones doing the pooing so that he wont want to eat that poo. If he eats his own too then you have to give it to him too. |
Mine is doing it also. YUCK! She always has to go right after she eats- so I don't get it she has a full belly and she is still drawn to her poo!!! What is the attraction??? After she does her business I just make sure I get her away from it asap and so she doesn't get the chance to get to it anymore. What are the chances she will outgrow this nasty habit? |

Baby Chloe did it for a short time. I gave Forbid for 5 days and then used SEP(stop eating poop) for a week. She stopped. I gave it to both dogs just in case. |

I've been giving my 3.5 month puppy deter from petsmart for 2 weeks now so I followed the instructions and doubled the dosage but I don't see any difference she still sneaks in and grabs her poo she waits for me to turn away to grab toilet paper when all of a sudden its in her mouth or already eaten :( |
Forbid I have been using Forbid for close to two months and it hasn\'t worked for me. Bella is such a perfect little lady except she likes to eat poo...lol We have another Yorkie and 2 other dogs. I have never even seen a dog eat poo before I saw Bella do it. It\'s really gross. She\'s about 5 months old and I really don\'t know what to do now. After the Forbid didn\'t work the first few weeks I doubled or little more the amount it said to use, still no effect. I put it on the food all the dogs eat. Bella is an equal opportunity poo eater - hers, theirs, she doesn\'t care. I\'m almost out now and wondering what to do. Maybe I should train her to a box in the house so she doesn\'t go out to the yard. I\'ve heard of people training their Yorkie to a litter box. I wonder if they ever have trained one to one of those that cleans itself up. I would really like for her to go outside but she sees outside as a buffet. Do they ever outgrow this? |
I\'ve heard that it\'s from a diet too high in protein. Their body doesn\'t digest all the protein so they pass it in thier poo. They smell the protein in the poo and eat it. You may want to look at the feed they are eating. I know my GP did this when I fed the other dogs different food then him. I changed their food to be the same and he stopped. I know it\'s yucky to deal with, I feel for you. Good luck |
I think ost pups go through this, ours did too try and distract them as soon as they poop, then quickly clear it up and reward them, if not stand poised ready b4 they get to it !!! No all do but most do grow out of this around 6/7 months of age. |
I am starting to think there is some truth to the theory that they need to clean up after themselves and that is why they eat their poop. I have found that if our puppy is in her puppy pen she eats her food and then poops and then tries to eat the poop. But if she is not in the puppy pen she poops and walks away from it. Now that she hasn\'t had accidents in a bit, we have slacked off a bit on following her around and she goes to her pee pad by her self. She actually poops and then starts barking- as if to say ok now come clean it up! We are from Canada so up until now it has been cold. I want to start taking her out next week for her to do her business and am curious to see what happens then. :aimeeyork |
