Two Better than One???
 

Hi everyone! I am hoping to hear feedback from people who:
1. Got two Yorkie puupies at once ( :aimeeyork :aimeeyork )
or
2. Had one Yorkie puppy than got another Yorkie puppy ( :aimeeyork & :aimeeyork )

I am wanting to know personal experiences and how the two scenarious differ. I have read some posts on having one and then introducing a second but are there any brave souls who did two? We are just curious... Thanks in advance! :D

Mollie just had babies 5 weeks ago and we are keeping 1 of her pups. I'm interested in this myself even though there will be 19 months difference in their ages. But, Mollie loves to play so I'm hoping it will be good for her.

IMO, having two is so much better than having one. And having three is even better than that.....and so on :) I thought and debated on getting our second one but after I did it I wouldn't have it any other way. As long as you have the time and commitment towards it, it really isn't any harder, IMO, than having one. My two had six puppies, by accident, so after dealing with that, two are a total breeze :p

We have two sibling puppies both 13 weeks and I would say get one puppy at a time, then in a year when the first dog is trained then get another we made this mistake and have to work extra hard to train them separately, together is useless the just want to wrestle and play.

I brought Sophie home at the end of March, and brought Daisy home at the end of August. It was an adjustment at first, in that you have to start all over with the potty training and crate training. But it was easier this time around :) They are such great playmates that I have never regretted getting a second. The only con, IMO, is that I don't take them with me as often as I did when there was only one. 2 is harder to handle.

Are you thinking of getting another?

I forgot to mention that when we got our second one, she was an adult and already trained....so that did definitely make a difference! Didn't think about that initially!

My oldest is Maddie, she is 2 year 6 months, Rudy will be two in Nov. and Polly is 6 months. Would love to have more. With the age difference I have only one to potty training each time. All three of mine get along great. Maddie is real laid back and Rudy and Polly are alway playing with each other. They all have such different personalities.

Roxy is 2 months older than TJ. I got them both at the same time from the smae breeder. They are 1/2 brother and sister (same Dad). TWO are definately better then One. I am soooooooo happy they have each other! It is work, I never have a hand free, but I love them both and am so glad I got them both! TJ has jealous moments of Roxy and Roxy has become more submissive, although I am working with her to build her confidence back and she is coming around. They play fight and chase a lot, but then they snuggle with each other - they are so cute!

well, I have 3 and got them at different times. They all play wonderfully together and get along great. Sure, every once in a while someone gets crabby, but that's to be expected.

My experience so far...

My 2 are 11 weeks a boy & a girl. It definately is harder to housebreak. They go outside great but when it's raining, no way. I live in Pgh so forget the snow in the winter - they will never handle that. I've not had too much luck with pee pads inside & hubby don't want them. Won't go in the litterbox. My friend suggested to take some sod & put in a litterbox & remove a little sod everyday - tried that today - I turned my back & come back in the room & they had it all dug up, dirt flying everywhere - having a great time. LOL! Time for plan C. It's just going to take a while but that's OK.

They play together alot & are inseparable & are just as cute as can be. When one learns something the other is quick to follow. They each have their private times & follow me everywhere. One has to have a 5 min cuddle when she goes to sleep where the other just wants to crawl in the crate. Everyone loves watching them play together. I think they help each other eat more. One will come back & eat a little more if they see the other still eating.

I am clicker training them & they take turns going in another room with me for a session. Chew toys they always want what the other one has but other than that it's been loads of fun so far but then they are only 11 weeks old.

We currently do not have any dogs. However we are in talks with a breeder to hopefully have one in the start of Dec when the puppies will be 12 weeks. We have considered two and were looking to see what the experiences are like with one or two. :-)

I got my male at 8 weeks old and my female I got at 6 months old and they also have very different personallities. He love to play and my female just wants to be held... they are the same age from different breeders and get along about 75% of the time...I love them both but I am considering getting another one that is more playful so my male has someone to play with when my female says thats it go away. :rolleyes:

I have 3. My male and female are 2 months apart, different breeders and they get along fine. He is much more playful then her at times and she puts him in his place. I just got a smaller female who is a year apart in their age and she rules his roost! Tells him like it is. Charlie and Paisley are almost 2 and Cini is almost 1. They all 3 get along, though. The more the better:)

I do not have 2 but it sure sounds like fun. Can't wait to hear your stories.

I have two, there are very different in character. She-Ra is a mother hen, and Harley is a rebel!!! Throw in A Chihuahua and whoo hoo!!!!

i got Betty and Piglet at the same time went to buy just betty and my best buddy was gonna buy two yorkies piglet *paige at the time* and lizzy well country girl decided to just get one puppie and i came home with two hahahah evil trick i tell you :eek: so half of it is so much better they play together love eachother are cute together can dress them alike but the second half is .. they poop twice as much get in trouble twice as much are twice as smart as me and make ten times the mess hope this helps have fun ahhahhahhhh *evil laugh*

I have two little girls and they are about two months apart in age...we had Magic almost fully potty trained when we brought Sailor home and it was an adjustment at first...the potty training had to start over, but within a couple of weeks, Sailor was following in the foot steps of her bigger sister...we knew what worked and what didn't and things were alot smoother....I think getting two was the best decision ever, they love to play with each and are almost inseparable now...now I am thinking about a third one in a year or so!!!

I have also heard often that a kitten makes the perfect low-maintenence companion for your dominant little Yorkie.

I have enjoyed reading this thread...since I decided today that I too am going to get a second puppy. Deb will be 4 months old on Monday and the new puppy will be here in about a week and she is 11 weeks old. I am nervous about the prospect and excited too. I figured that since we havent gotten the potty training thing down yet, starting over wont really be much different and Deb will have a playmate!!!! I can't wait!!

Mickey was born April 15 and Minnie July 9th of 2004 we got them both at 8 weeks old . We got Mickey then looked for a girl. then found her They got along great and was both very young. We was still working on potty training Mickey when we got minnie and she learned first. Im so glad we got them both about the same time. I think it was good for them to have each other. That way they always have some one to play with and are never lonely.

I dont have cats inside but i have 3 outside and when Mason goes out..they play and play..they chase eachother around and have a great time. I am looking for another one also.....to give him a bussy!! :) :) :)

I decided to get my second furbaby too :) She will be here one day next week! I hope Deb is ok with this :) What do you think of the name Mya???

I like it! It is a very calming name when you say it or thing about it. I know it has a meaning but I cannot remember what it is... ;)

I had a wonderful yorkie for 10 years. She died this last June. I have never felt such grief in my life but I wouldn't trade our time for anything but I think I learned that just one yorkie makes for lonely time. My husband & I both work and so it was hard for her. So....a week ago, we went and bought 2 pups. they are so cute but they are crazy. The female Dee sleeps on top of Sam all the time. I just love them and if I don't kill them, we will have a great time. :D
