| If you could give us a run down of your daily schedule and what you're doing to train him, we could give you better, more tailored advice.

| Nacho's schedule Thanks for everyone's response. Here is an example of Nacho's daily activities: -Once my husband wakes up (6-7AM), takes Nacho out immediately; Nacho typically will poo and pee at this time outside. -Nacho eats breakfast -My husband will take him out again at 10-11AM - Nacho is very unpredictable - he may or may not go at this time. -Between 11AM-1PM, we will find an accident in the house somewhere (usually Pee) -My husband will take him out again around 2PM-3PM. Nacho will typicaly go pee at this time -Between 4PM-5PM, we will find accidents in the house -Eats Dinner -Goes out around 5PM-6PM...AND WILL NOT GO. Just stands outside. -Remainder of the night is unpredictable - We will take him out but he may or may not go. We typically have to wake up at midnight or 2 in the morning to take him out again. Repeat cycle. Thanks again for all your advice. Much appreciated. |

First, since he has pottied all over the house, you need to do a thorough cleaning and start from scratch. Buy a blacklight, and find ALL the spots in your house. Saturate the spots with a good enzyme cleaner (this is key - Nature's Miracle and Simple Solution are great cleaners) and let dry overnight. Clean over stains again in the morning with a steam cleaner. NOW.. once your house is all clean, you need to start confining him. When you are away, he needs to be crated. This will prevent him from getting in any trouble (or hurt), AS WELL as accidents in your house. When you're home, invest in baby gates to keep him in the room with you. While he's out, you need to watch him like a hawk. If you absolutely cannot pay attention to him, he needs to be crated. The moment he starts to sniff or give any signs he needs to go, take him out. Consistency and prevention are the key. And treats, of course. Let me know if you have any more questions! Good luck!

| ^^^ I absolutely concur. Can't stress enough making a big deal out of the potty. Even if you say "good potty" 15 times all happy over and over again while s/he goes. Always Praise the potty! If s/he is 1, s/he should be on a pretty regular potty schedule. For instance, Rosie only goes poo once a day, in the morning. Amelia on the other hand, will go 2 times - in the morning and in the afternoon. Try to make note of when s/he does what & stay out with your Yorkie until s/he does it. Make no sound - ignore her (him?) until s/he goes. When your Yorkie does, praise the potty!! Between consistency in your going out times & praising the potty, s/he should get it.
