sick and tired of wiping up PEEEEEEEE....

I am so tired of cleaning up pee and poop. I cleaned up less when I was potting training my kids. I started retraining Fergie again, confining her to the kitchen. But as soon as she gets the chance, she will dash out of the kitchen and pee in the living room on the hardwood floor, or in any of the bedrooms or wherever she feels like it. My husband just came out to the kitchen to inform me that she yet again peed on the carpet in the hall way. I'm at my whits end.:thumbdown:eek:

I can feel your pain! Yesterday I had an absolute meltdown. I got home from a business trip and realized that our bedroom carpet had a few more pee spots than when I left. Not really a big deal since the carpet has already been dominated by pee. What set me off was the two dried up pee spots on our $1600 oriental carpet in the living room. I was so upset that I had to stand in the shower for 45 minutes just to cool down.

Then tonight, I'm standing out in the cold waiting for our little guy to pee. He pooped and then wanted to come in. I took him around in our yard and then got soo upset for not peeing after 10 minutes that i gave him a spanking. He yelped and my wife got so pissed that I'm now in the dog house (rightfully so). I should not have spanked the dog but I am seriously at my whits end. For some reason this has been extremely stressful for me.

What i've been doing to minimize pee spots in the house has been to put a diaper for him. I only bought one so when its in the washing machine (every other day) he has at the carpet again. So, get (2) or more. Second, tomorrow I'm going to get pee pads and will try to train him again on those. Other than that, I'm going to make it a habit to walk him down the block in the AM and right before bed (instead of just letting him sniff our back yard).

I hope your not as frustrated as me... but, maybe one day this problem will go away, cuz I truly love this little guy! :animal36

ok...get prepared...you are going to get bashed for hitting your dog...just a warning...because it is coming.

Invest in a portable rug cleaner....bissel makes a good one for about $40, they are good to clean up little mistakes. I have one and a full size steam cleaner.

I would put him in a crate when I couldn't watch him, and take him outside to potty every 2 hrs or so. If he potties, give him a treat. Positive reinforcement always works better.

I would stick with one training method too, Pee pads OR outdoors.

oh my gosh I wish i didn't see this. PLEASE don't hit your dog :(
They are dogs and don't know what they are doing... YOU are a human and you shouldn't get that angry and HURT him.

Invest in a carpet washer.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

What if I put a diaper on her while she's in the house, then every hour and a half or so, take her out or put on peepee pad? Which would be better?

Don't spank your dog.

I didn't! Never would

Fergiesmomma, have you taken a look at the other potty training threads? There are a dozen of them at least.

Just based on what you've said, I would suggest (1) taking her out more frequently, up to eight times a day if needed, and (2) picking her up as soon as you let her out of the kitchen. Some dogs will pee even if they are off the ground, but it usually helps. Diapers usually confuse the situation. Make a decision about where you want her to go, outside, or on pee pads. If it's pee pads, make sure she has a way to differentiate between the pads and rugs, like putting the pee pads in a tray.

I'd seriously consider investing in a carpet washer. I use RESOLVE petsteam cleaner... spray the spots and put some into the water vent... wash the carpets twice. From then on, wash every accident... wash the tile/hardwood...
And do this at least weekly.
Keep a close eye on him... if you can't watch him---but him in the crate.
Some dogs don't like going on the pads? Some of them prefer going outside---outside works better with me... as I had more accidents when they were going on their pads.

If you take them out, when you are home take them out hourly---then slowly increase the time spand.
Also, crate when you leave him home.

hope that helped and sorry.

How old is your dog and hs she ever been potty trained? I mean some are trained and then relapse and others have never been completely trained.

I would start over completely. keep her in the kitchen or areqa with hard surface floors and put down pee pads. If she does not go to them, then put the pee pads in the spots where she wants to potty.

In the evening when the family is watching Tv, let her jin the family, but keep her on your lap or use panties on her. take her out evry hur to 45 minutes. Put her down and tell her to PEE in a stern voice. If she does not go within a minute or two, take her back in. do not allow her off your lap. Wait a half hour to 45 minuutes, take her out again. If she pees praise praise praise, and if you want to treat, do it immediately, do not wait until you get back inside. Just keep repeating this.

Don't waste your time scolding her unless you catch her peeing where she is not supposed. if you see her squat to pee, startle her with a firm NO and take her outside.

in the same boat.....help someone

My Jax is almost 5 mths old. We work all day so he is left home by himself. We started confining him to a playpen but he quickly got irritated with being left in that so we confined him to a living room. We put papers and a litter box in the corner and for a while he did pretty good, then we decided to open him up to a little more of the house when we were home and now he pees and poos wherever he wants. Once in a while he hits the paper and we give him a ton of praise but most of the time he goes wherever. The room he is in most of the time is carpet so I have to keep cleaning it to try and get the smell out.
My breeder now says that I should confine him to a smaller area during the day with just a litter box and only let him out for short times when we are at home....I have been trying this technique today and he will not go in the box. He has gone in the room, but then everytime I let him out for a little while he goes on the floor somewhere else.
What can I do???????????

I'm not going to bash you for spanking, because I'm not against a puppy getting swatted on the rump now and again for dire transgressions (like growling/snapping, destroying something valuable) but you really should not have spanked the dog out of nowhere when he didn't pee in the yard. He probably had no clue what he was being punished for. If you use physical punishment, just like with a kid, you have to catch them in the act. Otherwise, they don't understand.

Are you using an enzyme cleaner like Nature's Miracle or any of the others you can get at a pet store? If you aren't, the dog can still smell where it went in the house before, and will continue to do so.

Have you tried crate training? It's a big help for dogs that have housebreaking issues. My pup is going to be confined to the crate whenever unsupervised as soon as he's old enough to hold his bladder for four hours.

Try tying a leash/harness to your belt and keeping an eye on her that way. Then she can't sneak off to do her thing. (I'm having this issue with my pup as well.) If she starts to have an accident while she's on lead in the house, she'll be within reach for instant correction.

How often do you take her out? How old is she?

WOW! Spanking & getting so mad Because a dog is having a hard time potty trained.
I think people really need to have patience. Potty training is a 24 hour thing.
