| Let me start by saying i am by no means a professional trainer. My husband and I got our yorkie at 11 weeks old and he is now 19 weeks old. We live on the fourth floor in a loft and outside training was not an option. We used the potty pads for the first time with him. We decided to crate train at the same time which i think helped a lot. Every hour we would take him over to the pad and say "go potty". If he went he got lots of praises and a treat. If he didn't go after 5 minutes of being on the pad, he went in his crate for 5 minutes and repeat until he goes potty. He is about 95% trained now. It took him longer to learn to poo on the pad than it did to pee on it. My best advise is to read everything you can, decide what methods sounds the best for you, your family, your schedules, etc. and stick with it. It may seem like it is never going to work, but if you just stick with it and don't give up, your dog will learn, just give it time!! Good luck and I hope this helps!! |

Thor's Human Donating Member | There are a lot of good threads here on pee pad training. Why don't you read through some of those as well. One tip I picked up was to put the pee pad in a litter box or something similar - this helps the dog distinguish between rugs (soft, indoors, but bad to pee on) and pee pads (soft, indoors, but good to pee on). |
