My mastiff used to do this too but, of course, her interest was much more destructive. Sh'e lay at a corner and get to the metal flashing that formed the corner and pull it off (all the way up the corner) then enjoy the bits of drywall that came off with it. The vet used to tell me it is part boredom and it happens to taste good. As soon as I started putting other treats, toys, or chew toys out both seemed to find them more interesting.
Several others have had some really good suggestions. Zoe goes in a xpen when we can't watch her and it keeps her away from the walls/baseboards in her room. Bitter apple can work if there are other positive things for them to shift to. If it is anxiety caused by you leaving, you might try leaving a radio on low nearby and see if that helps. (I leave my tv on animal planet alot - haha) Just keep thinking - once they get out of puppy stage it SHOULD pass :D |
