He bites non stop hey guys, my 10 wk old baby is just biting everything in sight, he has loads of toys, but our biggest proplem now is that he is biting everyone he chews on our hands, feet ,socks, slippers, jackets...etc How can i get him to stop biting us? esspecaily people who touch me he will jump out and *attack* them:confused: |
yes my 4 month old baby is starting to bite ppls hands...most of the time they are just playful bites but still...sometimes they hurt! POINTY TEETH! anyone have any advice?? :animal-pa |
If he's biting during playtime then as soon as your fingers make it into his mouth say NO in a low, stern voice and replace your finger with a chew toy. You can also spray your hands and feet with bitter spray until he learns that hands and feet are 'yucky' so he doesn't want to bite them. But he has to learn that some things belong in his mouth, but body parts are not on that list! If you don't curb this behaviour now it can get really painful when their jaw muscles are more developed! |
My 3 1/2 month old LuLu bites all the time too. Our arms are all cut up....we look like we were in a cat fight and lost! LOL.....I have millions of chew toys and as soon as she starts biting on us, we hand her one, but by then, we usually have a nice bleeding hole on us! LOL....I'm laughing now, but it makes me mad at the time. I can't wait for her to grow up! Our nine yr old Yorkie, Chewy, is all bit up, too. Lulu grabs onto her ears and hangs on. She is a terror to her and our cats. Everyone is up high so she can't get them. Chewy lives on the table! That's the only way she can get any rest! Plus, when we take our shoes off, we have to put them up high or they are gone! Anything on the floor is hers, she thinks. Our floors are littered with chew toys, dolls, toys, etc. I can't remember how long this lasts. Anyone know? I'm thinking another month or so, she'll wind down....yeah right! Hang in there everyone that has a puppy. My Chewy is very well mannered and has been for a long time. |

Have you tried bitter spray? It sounds like you should spray your whole house except for the chewy toys! :p |
Guinness was doing much better and now at 8 mos he's doing it again! UGH he doesn't have those pointy baby teeth anymore so it doesn't hurt like it did but we are really trying to get the behavior under control. Being stern or holding his lip didn't work, using a squirt bottle or shaking coins in a can DOES work! Guinness is just a stubborn toot like his mama ;) |
My pup likes to bite my fingers, hand, arm, and toes too- but he has really SHARP puppy teeth and it's broken my skin a couple times. He's not aggressive at all, just super playful but even when I say "no" he thinks I'm playing a game or something and it eggs him on  Anyway, the thing that is a lifesaver for my poor little hands, fingers, and toes is bitter spray! When he gets super excited, I spray some on my hands and after one taste- he learns his lesson. The only downside is that the bitter spray doesn't last very long. It dries up on my hands so after about 15 minutes, Wall-E is back to biting me! I heard that the squirt bottle thing is really effective though. I haven't tried it yet, but I hear other YT members use this method and its been effective. Good luck! If there are other useful anti-biting tips, I could use some too! |

Wow! He needs to have time out when he bites someone. Also he needs to know who's boss. I don't tolerate any biteing. No way! Suzi is 14 weeks. I put her down with a sharp no and walked away. She hasn't bitten me for weeks. Takes it out on Katie my 14 month old though. They playfight all the time. I know they are teething but you must be firm. Hugs Shirl x x |
ill try that ignoring technique! sounds like it might work :animal-pa |
well i tried the "NO" thing and he thinks its a game and bites harder, he gets really aggressive if he cant get his own way. How far away do you spray the water from him? He is also gets aggressive for no reason and growls at us sometimes but we have never ever smacked him to teach him right, all we do is love our baby |

And you spray the squirt bottle right on him if you want to try that, though personally I prefer the can full of coins method. You need to teach him the aggressive behaviour isn't appropriate either - try saying NO and using the ignoring technique again. And don't resort to hitting them ever! They'll learn using other methods! Also they'll never listen to you if you don't become the alpha dog. Make sure YOU always initiate play time (start and end), always walk through doors before them, and make them sit and be quiet before they get their food. They'll learn that you're boss that way. |

When you say NO you HAVE to mean it. Yell at them like it's a life or death situation until they understand the meaning of the word. My mom went to puppy school and they actually made every owner scream NO until they sounded mean enough - and boy did it work! |
Screaming at puppy I'd never scream at my Bently....... I use the Bitter Apple.... it works great.... just remember to wash your hands before eatting..... |
I cant find that bitter spray anywhere so i did the coin in a can thing this morning and it looks like it works, but what if he gets used to it or likes it eventually? My parents and gran started smaking him after i said they shouldn't but they carry on and he is so aggressive with us now, is it coz they hit him? I cant yell at my baby but if i do will that make him distrust me? |
