Adult dog, grooming issues

Hi, I'm new here. I have a 16 months old Yorkie. We just got him a few months ago from some family members that did not groom him regularly. I'm having a hard time getting him used to it. I'm going to try and switch from the metal brush and see if that helps. He gets into a lot so he typically gets baths twice a week You would think I'm killing him!! I really want him to learn to like water also. currently, he hates it. He hides everytime he sees me carrying a towel, brush, or his shampoo or conditioner.

that is a problem... when they get used to grooming and touching as puppies.. they are much easier and enjoyable to groom.. my gus LOVES grooming...
but, you can turn it around.. make it a bonding time.. try earthtbath shampoos.. available at petsmart
a soft brush helps them like it. i have many brushes,.. love the steel combs
play with and touch their feet a lot.. cutting the nails is import
he will get better.. patience and time will fix it..
