Help appreciated

Hi everyone,

I'm a new Yorkie mom and I'm wondering what advice you have for aggressive biting. Francis is 9 weeks old and before he would play bite but come back with puppy licks. Now, he is straight up biting. I've said authoritatively NO BITING and have held his mouth briefly as well as redirect with a toy or chew bone. Is there anything else I should be doing? I also realize that consistency is key.

Also, Francis will cry and once he's stopped (knowing I shouldn't reward a cry) I'll go to him, pick him up, but he'll cry again. Or if I put him down, he'll cry. Do I just have a fussy puppy?

he's a baby - that's normal and you sound like you're doing the right thing by saying that...give him lots of chew toys - and replace them with your body parts lol - He should grow out of it - and remember - like a real baby - they teeth so they need lots of stuff to chew on - SAFE STUFF. On the crying - I wouldn't pick him up each time - or he'll have YOU trained really quick.

I learned a trick here that helped a lot when Reesee was a puppy. If she bit too hard I would yelp loudly as if she had hurt me and turn away from her and refuse to play anymore. After doing it a couple of times she got the message. You can try that

Buy a bottle of Bitter Apple Spray, you can get it at Petsmart or any pet supply store. When he bites spray your hands and once he gets a taste of this he
think before he bites. Our trainer told us to do this with Kodie because he had
the same biting problem, now we can show him the bottle and he'll stop.

That stuff broke Pookie from chewing on furniture legs. After spraying in one place he never chewed on wood again. Never thought about spraying on my hand. I've got a biter too!

I agree with the above. All of mine were trained this way during the "biting" phase, and each one learned the difference between play "mouthing" and actual biting. Gotta love them razor teeth!!!
