Eating his Poop!! My little Winston has taken upon himself to clean up his poops while we are at work. He is kept in our kitchen with pee pads, food, water and toys and when we get home from work we see little poo marks on the floor but no poop to be found. Which only means - he's eating it! Yuck! Has anyone else ran into this? I've read that's it normal but I want to know how to stop it. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. |
arrrrgghhh!!! we have also had this problem with our little winston! we have been pretty lucky and are able to get him away from it before he does eat it...but i have read on here that if you feed them a small amount of pineapple it will make the smell/taste of their poop so they will not want to eat it...there is also something you can mix with their food but im unsure what it is called....good luck and i hope someone is able to give you the help you need! |
I have not had to deal with this yet, but Suzi is always curious about her poop..... |

Ahh Yes - The Poop Eating Habit  Try to nip this in the bud early on, as most do grow out of this, but be prepared that some do not (ie: TJ and Roxy ) Who are 3.5 yrs old and are still doing this from time to time. What food are you currently feeding? What food are you going to change too? Being that you leave him alone during the day and he does this, this may start to just become a habit of boredom (like mine). You can buy a product at the food store called ACCENT (in the spice isle) and sprinkle some of it on his daily food, you may have to do this for a few weeks, but hopefully it will do the trick! Best of Luck and May the Force Be With You - NO MORE POOP EATING  |

The new food (which I've used before) is Eagle Pack for puppies. I'm going to mix 1/2 and 1/2 until his little tummy get used to it. I'm hoping it has more nutrients to keep his 'poop eating' urges to a minimum. |

You sound like me - I have tried EVERYTHING that is made out there for this and I have tried EVERYONE'S suggestion at least twice, maybe 3x. The only thing that works here is that I watch them like a hawk, and when they do poop, I throw a big party and give a special treat for being good little babies. But if I am gone or if I happen to be busy and not watch them, it's a free for all. I swear, there are days that I have brushed teeth 3x each  (hahahahahaa) |

well,,, gross though it is,, its good to know I'm not alone with my PoopMunchers,,Good Look!;) |
Give him a few bites of fresh pineapple each day. Is there anyone who can come get him and take him for a walk to break up the boredom? |
Thanks everyone for replying to my post. After reading online about this, I've decided to switch his food (which I did last night) and I'm hoping it was just a case of him lacking nutriance in his original food. I switched him to eagle pack and he really munched it down last night. So my fingers are crossed when I go home tonight we don't find any mysterious poop marks on the floor! LOL |
What food do you guys feed? Any chance you guys are feeding Canidae? |
My yorkie does it sometimes. I just changed her food yesterday to Purina hopefully this will help her stop, if not maybe she will grow out of it. |
poop eating our littl girl is six months od now, she went through a stage of pop eating, watching me to see who could get there first !!! some days sh would wolf it down and others we would be ale to get there first, ten suddenly she just started to leave it, now i think she has eaten poop about once in 2 months , so i think she isjust growing out of it, we tried to distract her and not make a big deal out of it because the more up tight you are about it the more they seem to do it !! good luck hope he just grows out of it !! |
I have 3 females and the last one did that. She was 5 mos when we got her and when we noticed she was eating it, I was really upset. Now the breeder wouldn't even call me back about that problem. Guess no answers huh? I just have to laugh because we tried to catch her like all have said some days you are lucky others you aren't. We switched her food and not sure if that did it or if she just out grew it. But she is now 8 mos olds and has been find for the last 2 mos or more. Good luck with this problem. Sounds like others have been there also. |
