Nip it in the Bud! I had a pet that did that before and the results were almost tragic. He became very, very ill. I ended up taking him to the Vet b/c he was throwing up and having bloody stools. The Vet explained that because of this, they can get a very mean parasite that makes them ill. So what they did was prescribed this powder like med that discourages them from eating their poop. You simply sprinkle it on their food, but it worked. Thank God!!:) |
Garrett was on Royal Canin when I got him, and boy did he love eating poop  I did the whole pineapple thing, but I wouldn't say it worked, I still had to watch him like a hawk [we were doing pee pads at this time]. As suggested by YTers, I decided to switch to Canidae, we switched food cold turkey, he had no stomach problems and wouldn't you know - HE STOPPED EATING HIS POO ! Just like that. When we started going potty outside, the first time he pooped, he turned to smell it and my heart jumped, I though "oh no, he's gonna eat it". Well he sniffed, sneezed and walked away...:D Hasn't touched it since....hopefully he wont regress. I since changed him to FROMM Kibble and various canned, and he's been good. They actually poop less when they eat a high quality food - from my own experience and my friends who I switched to top brands. |
Poop Well, Bella does this and the vets says sometimes they grown out of it. There is something they can give them. Well lucky Bella does not do that anymore but I stay at home so I have to monitor her. She still goes out to get some but I make this horrible sound and slap my hands and she darts away. But she does not eat hers she eats everyone else's. We have 3-schnauzers and 1-other yorkie. Hope that helps. Cheryl/Jack/Bella:animal-pa |
I had that problem and still do from time to time with Keoki- I have been very conscience of picking up right after him but I know you go to work- there is something you can give him but i'm not sure what it is- all I know is that it has gotten better for us. I heard it is an instinct that dogs have to hide their smell from predators- it makes sense I guess but it is gross- Good luck!!!! |
