my 8mth old does exactly the same thing I am constantly running after him because he ALWAYS has something in his mouth. I try to buy him a lot of toys so those will be the only thing he is interested in but he easily tires of the toys and begins to look for things on the carpet in the grass and anywhere his little nose can reach! and he has a two rounds of training and he still does not "leave it" |

The "leave it" and "drop it" commands have been great for us. Prince seems to know when "leave it" is coming. If I drop a piece of food, he hesitates to see if i'm looking before he slowly tiptoes over to it. When I tell him to leave it, he kinda hangs his head and sulks away (as if to say "dang! foiled again). I have to laugh to myself cause its the cutest thing ever. I usually end up giving him a treat or kisses afterward for listening so well. |
LOL...ashamed to say but one day I got the ladder climbed up to clean my ceiling fan with months of dust piled up, wiped it all to the floor..and I am talking about dust balls the size of a small kitten....when I climbed down ...the floor was CLEAN! and My Mac sitting there with a small fuzzy ball hanging from his beard.. patiently waiting for his next "treat"!! Silly dog! |

Bailey eats everything too. I'm worried he might swallow something that might kill him. My friend's yorkie died when it was 2 months old. Apparently, he ate a needle. Ever since then, I'm super paranoid with my yorkie. ������ |
Also need to be carefull when taking your Meds or dispensing some out when you have a pack. I have one pup that will happily eat anyone's Meds thoughtfully spit out by his bro or sis. |
Welcome to YT, this thread is 8 years old, you can start your own thread on this topic if you wish, but for now, you have to keep your house as if you had a human toddle. You know how toddlers are, everything goes in their mouth, well yorkie pups are the same way. In other words, baby / puppy proof your home. I trained my boy when I am cooking he is not allowed in the kitchen, also train your pup command word of LEAVE IT also DROP IT. |
My girls eat everything & the strangest things... a small remote they were able to get off the coffee table, coasters anytime I leave them too close to the edge of the table, my vertical blinds, some baseboard, the legs of my coffee table, tweezers (?!), they love pens... then of course anything I accidentally leave on the ground. I try to make sure they're leaf-free when they come in from walks but they always seem to keep one or two collected in their long hair & that's their favorite thing to eat. They have tons of toys of all different types and textures but they prefer anything that isn't a toy it seems. I use "leave-it" and "drop-it" but they generally get things when I'm not looking. I keep them in an x-pen when I'm not home because they cannot be trusted. They'll be 2 in April... any thoughts on how long these kiddos do this?! Haha |
My last girl stole anything she could, $20. bills from my purse, chap sticks, cig. lighters, the money she shredded, chap sticks, lighters she had a secret stash pile lol. She was close to 13 yo when she kinda stopped. |
