potty I have had my first yorkie for 3 months now she is 10 months old and...potty trained.guess i have been lucky |
Jasper was fully trained at 12 weeks,Peanut at 5 months,Sparkle accidents still at 6 months,Ruby still not trained at 4 months,ugh! |
Brooklyn was probably 6-8 months and Britney was about a year old. |
I have been in Florida in our motorhome with my Bomber and he is fully potty trained at 7 months. But.......we just arrived home and our daughter (who lives with us) got another yorkie while we were gone (a rescue type) and she felt so sorry for her that she didn't want to scold her so she has been peeing on the throw rugs. She got her at 10-11 months of age and has had her for about 4 months. I don't know if I can stop this now that she's been doing it for that long. Crate training didn't work because the people that had her left her in there all the time, so she went in the crate. I don't know what I'm going to do. |
hmmm I think Momiji was trained around 7 month but she still has accidents(?) once a while. She is 19 month now and she peed on her little blanket the other day. (I left on the floor and I'm sure it felt good on her little tush than pee pad!!!) What I wonder is that she sometime doesn't pee all day until I come home but when she finally pees, it is not a lot. Soooo I have a feeling she may be peeing somewhere I haven't noticed..... I still can't figure out where..... (My carpet is kind of beige/brown old carpet so it is very difficult to see...) |
Oliver did quite well...5mos. He is now l8 mos. and never has any accidents...even in someone elses home. Brooklyn is in training at 3 mos! Hopefully we will be as lucky. But, I have been able to be here with both of them 24/7 so i can watch them. :) |
Gracie has been potty trained for prob. over a month and shes ALMOST 5 months! :D good luck |
I think it's safe to say around a year or longer for a Yorkie. Some will train early but MOST it takes a good year or more. Bella was well over a year. Lilly is a year and still having accidents. Noel took almost two years but she was abused. Tia was 10 months old when we got her and she was 100 percent pee pad trained. Jersey is a year old and she is almost potty trained but will have accidents. Truthfully, (I know I may open a can of worms with this) but I think that very few Yorkies are 100 percent potty trained. I'm finding that with mine. Elaine |
Both of our girls were trained by about 7-8 months but would occassionally have accidents in the house, but once we got the doggy door they have been great!!! They know they can go out whenever they need to and rarely have any accidents in the house anymore...sometimes someone will mark in the house which causes everyone else to mark the same spot as well. We just got a new female Silky (she is 3 years old) and she has never been trained as she lived in a kennel enviornment so we have been watching her like a hawk and teaching her about the doggy door, I think in about a month she will be fully trained like everyone else!! |
Faith was very easy to train at 9 monthes she was 100% weewee pad trained, she is now three and has never had an accident. Yorkies are so smart! |
I got Cody at 6 months and he wasn't potty trained -- :-( it took me about 6 months. I got Zoe at 3 months and is only 4 months now...we are pee trained but have accidents with the poop. I am just now trying to bell train them both...not sure if I started too late but they don't make any noise to let me know...I have to constantly ask them. Cody will bark if I ask him...Zoe doesn't know yet. |
Bella was completely potty trained to go outside by 5 months. Her first accident free day was about 3-4 days after we brought her home (she was 3 months old when we got her). She's a very smart little girl:D |

I don't think that is the norm for most Yorkies. I think it depends on the individual Yorkie and how well you work with them. Some have to work during the day and it makes training a little bit harder. I am a SAHM and that makes it a LOT easier. My grandmother on the other hand has a 5 year old Yorkie that does NOT listen and pretty much does what he wants in and out of the house. I blame that on my grandmother. She was never consistent with training and it shows now. Had he been in my house things would have been very different. Diesel was paper trained at 9 weeks when I brought him home. By 6 months he was housebroken. He had a few accidents in the beginning here and there but that soon stopped. He is going on 3 and is 100% housebroken. He will even come get us when he has to go out. He will jump in your lap and give you a ton of kisses and then jump down and start prancing all over. Like I said I think it depends on how you train them and the personality of the dog. |
ok, I'll admit it. Tucker is 3 and he has been clueless his whole life. He would go in the house but I never, ever caught him in the act. When we moved here 6 months ago my niece took Tucker for about 6 weeks and he came back to me potty trained! (I told her I could get her lots of business if she wanted:rolleyes:) Since we got him back he would only go in the house at night. So, we started crating him at night and now he is totally potty trained! I've just started leaving him loose if I have to run out for a short while and he hasn't had an accident in the house in weeks! I guess he's a late bloomer! |
