Cesar Millan - Dog Whisperer, Do Any Of U Watch It? Since some members here was talking about the new show on Animal Planet, It got me to wondering how many here at YT watches Cesar Millan of The Dog Whisperer Show and uses his ideas on their own Yorkies? I myself do every single week along with my girls and sometimes hubby, I have his 2 books, 3 DVDs' and his 2008 Calendar in our Yorkie Room and also use his ideas with all our Yorkies...Like when our girls are playing to rough with each other I shh (Spelling there on it lol) them and they dead stop and look at me. I also am walking them all alone sometimes our 2 boys together, sometimes our 2 youngest girls together (Trying to walk Sage too but haven't been able to due to her heat cycle, once it's done then I'll take her too) like Cesar says too and it works so good with Galahad, I have them all on harnesses but have Galahad on a longer leash and I have to put that leash around his neck high (Like U do when U show, he says this is the way to put it high on their necks) & Galahad straightens right up and walks with me not pulling me, he is so so skiddish of everything, scared to death, I feel if we can master the walk then we can do anything together, it is helping him I feel. Yes I look like a nut taking my heel and tapping his butt/ back leg lightly but it works, he turns his attention toward me. My goal is to get each one of my 5 Yorkies walking with me not pulling me & then take them all 5 out together for walks around the block. Maybe if I work with them all Summer by Fall we can all walk together as a big Yorkie family :). So who else here on YT is a Cesar Fan? What do ideas do U use of his on your Yorkies? |
I have seen a few shows, it seems interesting. |
We watch!! It's a Friday night ritual...watch Ceaser while reading YT! |
Yes. I love Cesar; I think if he were a dog, he'd look like a yorkie. :D Something about his eyes. I think the most important thing that I have learned from Cesar is that a dog is not a human, and they have different things that motivate them, and different needs that must be met in order for them to feel secure. Humanizing a dog is not really a compliment. Walking your dog in such a way as to establish yourself, as the alpha dog is another important message I have learned. A secure dog is a happy dog. |
I have watched several shows and find some of his methods very helpful in training my boys. The only thing I don't like is that he doesn't like it when people treat their dogs like babies. Well, mine are very spoiled and get lots of attention, but they are also well behaved and listen to me. I think if you do it right, you can still spoil them rotten, yet have a well-behaved dog. |

I have heard everyone talking about that show, but don't know where to find it. We may not have the channel, but I haven't run across it. Could someone tell me what channel it's on? I would love to see it. |
I watch Dog Whisperer all the time.:) |

I love watching Cesar Millan on Friday Nights. Thanks for asking! It has helped teach me how to walk Piccolo on a leash better and what to do when big dogs come along. Lisa and Piccolo |

http://channel.nationalgeographic.co.../dogwhisperer/ Here is the link to Cesars' Dog Whisper Show & he does have shows with Yorkies too, even if we've already seen the show 9 our of 10 times well rewatch it. Once U see it a few times U do get hooked, he may seem harsh the 1st few times U watch it (Hes not harsh to them or rough with them, no more then a Mother Dog is to her Pups, I mean my Tiffanie got her pups down just like he does and she was a lot rougher lol) but just look how the dogs do what he request of him, it's truely amazing how he can work with them and it doesn't take him that long at all...He is something else!!! http://www.cesarmillaninc.com/ The Cesar and Ilusion Millan Foundation Site (A national, non-profit 501(c)(3) foundation designed to aid and support the rescue, rehabilitation and placement of abused and abandoned dogs). I do donate to his site here and I have to admit that his site is the only one I've donated to help dogs I know I'm bad. (Go ahead and give it to me lol) He does such great work, he reconditions rescue dogs, such as bad, mistreated pit bulls (His Own Pit Bull "Daddy", that goes to others houses to help him in rehabilitating others dogs) and other breeds that have been abused & that have been abandoned and even takes other peoples dogs that just don't fit into their life style (He says get a dog to match U & U're life style) and trades that dog for one at his rescue (I saw that on his show, it was a great show too) http://www.millanfoundation.org/ I love him to death, would love to meet him one day, his books are just fantastic, to read where he came from, how he was taught it just so very neat. He has really come a long way and his thoughts on Dogs any breed is just something else. He is a hero in my eyes!! I really look up to him.I hope U can get the channel to watch him, just incase U can this is why I put the links here for U so maybe U can go read or watch his videos :) |
I watch his show too and love it! Isn't he awesome? I also like "It's me or the dog" and the trainers name is Victoria Stillwell. She uses more of a treat based training tecnique and I like that as well. |
We are fans of the show also!!! |
I just bought his book, ordered his DVDs on Blockbuster, and have a recording set on my DVR! :D I just got a new baby and I want my boys to be as happy and well rounded as possible. Cesar is great! |
We watch....when Abigail lets us. *sigh* She barks at all the dogs - yes, even when they are quiet. She stands up on her little hind legs, and watches for the dogs. Cesar would be very disapointed in how we "allow" her to run the show (pardon the pun).:p |
I like most of what Cesar Millan says, but not everything. He isn't as good with small dogs as he is with big ones. Sometimes he advocates being rough with small dogs, like holding them down, and I don't agree with that. I saw him drag a big dog across a slick floor that the dog was afraid to cross and I didn't like that. Dragging any dog into something it fears might just make it be more afraid. I sometimes wonder how much time elapses between the first shot of the dog and the shot where the dog does what he wants it to do. Cesar has a lot of good ideas, but I pick and choose what to apply to my own dogs. I guess I'm a little cynical about people on TV. Assuming they know what they're doing and taking their advice can be dangerous. |
We watch....good show...he is amazing! We have tried many of his ideas on our dogs. We have 2 yorkies...two beagles and a rat terrier! Ours is an interesting household!!:) |
I watch the show every day and have practiced his techniques. So far they seem to be working. MacTavish and Madeline walk side by side nicely. I am still working on when someone comes to the door but we are getting there. |
Love the show but have not really tried to put it to work, we need to work on the walking thing but living on an acreage it is so easy to just let him run. I should start that tonight if it does not rain. I will be posting pics later, buddy got his first haircut yesterday |
I watch Cesar Milan over here in England and also Its me or the dog with Victoria Stillwell. I have 2 of his books and look on his website regularly and one of hers. I am getting Schmoos little sister in less than a fortnight and we are going to call her Katie:aimeeyork. I must try and work out how to post pictures of my little pack. I will then have a GSD, a Jack Russell and 2 Yorkie X. Three of my dogs will be puppies and the GSD is 12! :animal36 Ta ta for now :animal-pa |
OMG i love Cesar Millan, He is on every night here in the UK at 7pm. I watch it every night some of them i have seen b4 but its always nice to see again to refresh on what u have seen lol helps that he is a bit of a hunk too hehe!! I try to do what he says even tho it is really hard. |
Love The Show! I don't have cable so I have watched the show on DVDs. They are wonderful!! Cesar is wonderful!!! I fortunately don't have a dominant puppy or one that gives me much grief about anything (believe me, I know I'm very lucky) so I haven't had to use his techniques. There may be a day when I do, who knows? What I have learned most from watching the DVDs is that if the dog has an issue that needs to be remedied/rehabilitated, it is usually due to something that the humans around the dog have reinforced in some way unknowingly. So then the humans have to rehabilitate the dog as well as themselves to correct the behavior. I think it is a great show! Good luck with your 5 yorkies! :animal36 |
I watch Cesar and Victoria both. I like Victoria's methods best. I think when you walk your dog, they need to have a little freedom to sniff things out and explore, and not to be on a very short leash right by your leg and only be allowed to just walk and not explore. Dogs learn by exploring and this is what makes them well adjusted. |
The Dog Whisperer is my favorite show! Cesar is amazing with dogs and my dream would be to work for him! I try to apply all his principles to Jacoby, and I think he is "almost" balanced! But he still growls at me when I leave him and tries to bite my ankles. We are trying to work on that... Thanks to Cesar, I get to take Jacoby on walks, because I couldn't even get him to take one step on a leash until I watched Cesars show. I started to stand up straight with my shoulders back and act calm and assertive and all of a sudden he started walking. |
