im losing it yesterday after work, went home to find pee pee everywhere in the living room except her pee pad.... i am fit to be tied.. i dont know what to do anymore... i think thats because i took away 1 wee wee pad.... now shes back in the hall way where there is tile.... she just hates it... to bad.... she was doing so good and now this.....im back to square one again..... thank god i had plastic over my rug in the living room..... i am so frustrated you cant believe it..also i think she pee peed in my bed...actually she had to cause it wasnt me.... i think she wasnt feeling good yesterday cause she also threw up... help with the traing please?? im scared im doing wrong. |
wow you have a bit of a situation. how old is she? you don't have to put her back in the crate but block off part of the house and put her in that area. perhaps putting the other wee wee pad back down. don't blame yourself, a lot of dogs regress every now and then during training. you just have to be a little more firm about it. good luck! |
. she will four months on july 29th.... i did put her crate in the hallway that is about 15 ft long... along with all her toys..her whole toy box.. left her dry food and water and 2 wee pad together at the end of the hall way near the bathroom where i eventually want her to go....is that good? |
yea that sounds good. she's doing really well, if she was doing that good up to 4 months. don't let her get out of the hallway if thats where you want her to be when your not home. if that doesn't work then keep making the area smaler and smaller. when she starts doing good again make it a little bigger. good luck!! |
. thankyou for your help,gina |
They sell a spray at www.petsmart.com that you spray on the pad and dog's are supposed to be attracted to the scent and pee wherever you spray it. bought it and it seems to have helped me train Katie. |

You mentioned that your puppy was not feeling well yesterday...Our puppy started having a few bad days and then started acting like she was feeling bad and come to find out she had a urinary tract infection which was causing her to not feel well and also causing her to not have very good bladder control. |
. any help, any suggestions, ill take... i love this site. you guys are just great. and i learned so much.. |
. i will have her checked out on friday,, i have an appointment for her last shot. i will try and ask all the questions i need answers to , if i remember |
I think you gave her too much freedom too soon. Plus she is only 4 months old, still a baby and still has a lot to learn. |
. yes maybe it was tooooo soon, but im there now, cant undo the past. i made a big mistake and im paying for it now..... im trying to fix it before its too late...i hope its not too late. |
that spray worked for Oreo & Ginger.. but it STINKS!!!! lol.. and that is a little bit too much freedom.. start her off in a room/bathroom.. well since i still live with my parents.. i have a big room for me and the kiddies and they are doing great with potty training except when i let them roam around the house.. they go bizarre and pee/poo everywhere and anywhere until i either put them back in the room or take them outside to go potty.. :D |

For starters - and just for starters - I never leave a dog under a year alone in a house with the run of the house. Even after they are housebroken, or I think they are, they are still confined to a single room in the house when I am not around. Or better yet, an ex-pen. This for behavioral purposes. Was she free to run around or just in the living room? |
Ok I got that stuff that you spray or drop on their puppy pad to attract them...ya so not only did it NOT work, but it made my WHOLE house smell like a big petting zoo, even though I was literally placing one drop of it on her pads (per directions). It's disgusting. Coco is perfect with her potty training now, only because I'm firm about time outs. She hates those. |
It really isn't necessary to buy the drop so your puppy will pee on the pad. All you do it put some of your puppies pee on the pad, it works the same. |
You seem to be so against crating that I don't what to tell you. This will always happen. 3 pee pads is not training. Plastic on the carpet is not training. She simply has too much wiggle room and her bathroom is so big that it will be extremely difficult to get her to go in one spot. I really hope that you reconsider crating. Your dog is simply too young to have that much freedom. Trust me, your dog will be fine if you crate her. The crate you use now is not a crate at all. I used the spray stuff a few times too and it worked. She will pee on the pad if you use it but not all day. As long as you are not around and she has the run of the house she will never be house trained. My dog is 3 months old and I don't have these problems out of her. Crate her during the day, at night and whenever else you could. When you take her out the crate take her straight to the spot where you want her to pee/poo. While she's peeing/pooing use the command you want her to learn, whether it's "potty" or "pee" or whatever. As soon as she stops peeing/pooing you stop saying that word. I did this for one week and she was trained to go to the pad and pee/poo on command. |
Yes I think she has too big of an area too, we have Daisy in our Laundry room and she is doing very well with her housetraining, no accidents in a week! Yeah! She is 4 months old. We bought that spray stuff and it never worked for us either. Good luck and remember the key is to be patient, I know sometimes it is hard, but she will learn. Good luck! |
