Outside or puppy pad? Do you think its easier to train to go potty outside? Who uses pad and who goes outside. Im still debating on what to do with Izzy. |
Mine go outside. |
I think sometimes it depends on the weather in your area. Zoe was pee pee pad trained and then last summer I totally went to outside training and she did great until the snow and cold weather hit. Now she doesn't want to go out and I wish she would go on the pads at least. Uggg! |
All mine go outside:) I never had goodluck with the peepads, So i had hubby build a kennel off my front door and we put cement in, So much easier to keep clen that way to:) good luck with your training;) |
I trained Pixie to use potty pads and she's now 4 years old. For me, it was a matter of convenience. I lived in a high rise apartment in the middle of the city with no grassy areas. Also, I like being able to take her everywhere with me and just put a potty pad down for her to go. It's also nice when I have friends or family watch her when I'm out of town. She's easy to babysit because they don't have to worry about taking her outside. Finally, weather may be an issue to consider. Before I moved to Florida, I use to live in Michigan and Ohio were the winters can be rough. I didn't want my little girl to have to worry about going outside in the freezing snow and rain. I think it really depends on what your preference is and what works for you. Some people litter box train their Yorkies, too. Good luck! |
Mine go out in the snow. They pee quickly. :D |
Mine are all trained to go outside, actually I never even heard of people using potty pads inside the house until I came to this site (we've always had Labs & Bella's my first little dog). I guess it's all personal preference. I don't think I would ever use the pads though, I can't imagine dealing with that. It's much easier to use a pooper-scooper outside. |
lexi is trained both ways.. i have a pee pad in the house and she uses it during the night or during the day when im not home or when ever, but i also have one on my deck outside and she rings the bell and uses that too, plus i walk her every morning and evening and she goes potty on the curb also.... |
Mine use a combination of both. They use a doggie door to go outside and pee pads when the weather is bad or when I am not there to let them out (I usually close the doggie door when I am not home). |
Mine are trained to go outside! |
I use the pads just because we are usually gone most of the day, but if your able tkae him out every hour or two then have them go outside. Once Charlie can hold his bladder better I'm going to move the pad outside. We do take him out after he eats or when we get home and he'll use the bathroom. Hope this helps. :D Goodluck..potty trainings been a bit difficult for us. |
I thought it was easier to outside train |
Thanks guys, Im really leaning towards outside. She is laying on the pads like a bed and pees on her blankets:confused:. She did have the whole bathroom to raom in but, Ive confined her to a smaller area. Ive just got to get around to getting a harness today. Suppose to be very nice this weekend so I think we will try and see how it goes. |
mine are all inside on pads..they will pee outside when they're out there playing, but, it has always worked best for us..if we want to go somewhere for a few hours, we don't have to worry about getting home to let dogs out, they don't get the "stinky" dog smell when they have to go out in the rain..when it's storming out, I don't have to worry about them going out, etc etc. there are only 2 negative things as far as pee pads, that's that with 4 of them, it can get costly, and you have to clean poop off the pad, but, hubby cleans the back yard up at least once a week from the 2 big dogs, so, if my other 4 were going out there, he would be out there all the time cleaning up.. |
Update This morning I picked up a leash and a harness. This was a first for Izzy and she took to it very quickly YAY!! So we were leading her around in the house and I heard my daughter say no Izzy (still on leash and harness) so we stoped her before she really got started. We took her straight outside and put her on the ground (this was a first also YAY) and she pooped within 3 mins we gave her a treat and told her good job. Keep your finger crossed that this will work, its been 3 weeks with not one little inch of progress. I truly thought she wouldnt go because the surroundings were so new but she did:good job:. My husband is here all day so he can come in and let her out several times a day. Shes 20 weeks old so she should be able to hold it a little longer, am I right? |
