How many months usually it takes to get housebroken? Hey guys my puppy is 5months and I am curioius on how I am doing with housebreaking. He is still not trained althoug he does it outside he also does it inside. My question is at what age is good for them to be housebroken as well as how many months of training and I am sure it varies but just a rough estimate be great! Thanks! |
All dogs are different. Baxter wasn't completely trained until 1 year-he mostly went outside, but had accidents. I got him when he was 12 weeks and trained him from the beginning. Chloe is 4 months and she is doing AWESOME. I think it depends on the dog and how you train them. |
I don't think there is a magic number so to speak. All depends on your consistancy and their willingness to want to do it. |
Housebreaking This could take quite a bit of time I heard you really can't expect them to be fully housebroken until they are a year old. Patience, Consistency are key. I have to take my babies out atleast every hour to avoid accidents. But I still expect them. I have been doing this for about 5 weeks now. Oh by the way not in the middle of the night their crate stays dry I am very thankful of that. Jack and Mandy's Mom :animal-sm :happyboun :yorkiesar |
Both my boys were 99% trained at 7 months. They progressed much better in their training after they were neutered. |
Codie (my maltese) was SO EASY to potty train! This sounds strange but I swear he was trained in 3 weeks! Katie (my Yorkie), on the other hand, took such a long time to train. During that time, she peed and pooped ALL over the house - including on my leather couch .... grrrrrrrr! But after 4 months, she is fully potty trained. Yay for Katie! |

Reagan is 9 months old and is now housebroke, I think. She even in this past month has started going to the door barking and whining to be let out. That part is heaven. |
Mine Is 8 Months And 90% She Is And The 10% Not :D But Shes A Very Good Little Girl. |
She-ra finally housebroke at 18 months, Harley is 6 months and will burst b/f he goes potty in the house. I guess it is different for all of them! |
toby was housebroken at around 7 months i think........ |
My puppy is 7 months and isn't even CLOSE to being housebroken. He always goes outside, but then will beat a path to get in the house so he can go some more on the floor.....grrrrrr. |
I agree that every dog is different. My Daisy has completely suprised us, she is 4 months and we got her two weeks ago and it has been a week since she has had an accident inside. I even left her last night for an hour to get some coffee and let her have roam of the house and she was sooo good and nothing was chewed up or any accidents. We use a bell on a string by the door, she pulls on it when she needs to go out. My friend has a yorkie and it took her 3 months of training until she saw results, so hang in there, be persistant with the training and it will happen! Good luck! |
Charlie has been been housebroken since he was about 5 or 6 months, with very few accidents since then. It is nice cause he will bark by the door until someone notices that he wants outside. |
Every dog is different. I think that it also depends on us. We need to be consistent and patience. Gucci is 90% housebroken. She still has some accidents but Is mostly my fault. Good luck in housetraining your pup. |
