I thought we were doing so good Max has been doing so good with pottying outside, or so I thought. He's had a few accidents but overall seemed to be holding it fairly well until let outside. Today as I walked back in the door I caught a urine smell. I started looking closer at the carpet (light beige color) and noticed several off colored spots. Seems he's using the carpet by the door to go potty between outside potty breaks. Not sure how long he's been doing this but there are about 5 or 6 spots on the carpet. I'll have to get out the carpet cleaner and hope I can get the smell out. I had been giving Max more freedom in the house because I thought he was doing so well but I guess it's back to strict crate training. This whole potty training stuff is getting really old. I hate to admit it but I'm really wishing I had got a different breed of dog.:( |

Well thanks God there is hope...even if it takes a year!! |
yeah i'd say morgan was 95% potty trained at 8 months and it just took a few more months to finally nail it. yorkies are a pain in the butt to train |
Hey Rose, I see you're in Mississippi too! Are you having trouble with your puppy as well? I'm so tired of all this! I have a friend that got a Shih-tzu/Poople mix last year and it didn't her dog long at all to become potty trained. My husband wanted to get a Schnauzer, but I had to have a Yorkie. I'm thinking if I'd of let him pick the dog out, I'd have a house trained puppy by now. (My signature says Max is 12 weeks old but he's actually 17 1/2 weeks old) |
Furgie is now 31/2 months and yeppers they are a B to train. So I heard. But I confused her by changing the rules in the beginning of the game. I am so sorry she was doing soooo good. Except she still thinks my living room rug is a big pee pee pad. Anyways I had a Schnauzer...in fact I have own two....it took them about 2-3 months to get it...so it takes awhile too. And I am home with mine. Whats worse to me is their urine odor....very strong! phew! |
Mississippi huh? I live close to Hattiesburg. Where are you? No need to tell exactly! |
I live in Raleigh. It's straight out Hwy 18 about 35 miles out of Brandon. I finally got Max staying in his crate all night without going potty in it. I had been keeping him in a play pen with a pee pad but didn't want to do that forever. I get up about 2:30 in the morning and let him out so he doesn't have to hold it all night. He'll still go potty in his crate though if he's in there longer than about an hour during the day. It's very aggravating. |
i remember many sleepless nights and getting up at 4 am to make sure she went out before i left for work! my dog is 13 months and only goes inside for spite! if we all leave together she will get mad and go inside. It is worth the trouble. I have so much fun with her now.. i totally forget how hard it was in the beginning! I graduated from MS College by the way. Grew up on the Coast;) |
Don't give up hope girls! They will get it in time!!!:animal36 |

I never got up and put any of mine to potty @ night....I clean it all up in the morning. Isn't that how they learn to hold it, cause they don't like being wet???? Think about it! |
awww Rachel we was about to buy a farm up there but changed our minds...so yes I know where it is at and I just love that little town!!! Maybe we can get together and have a play day.... if we could find a mid way meet play spot...LOL Quote:

As far as cleaning him up in the morning; I change so many diapers during the day, I try and keep the poo and pee clean up to as little of an amount as I can. :p I've got him going longer and longer though at night. I was getting up a couple times at first, now we're just down to one time and it's been around 3am the last several nights. We're working towards all night. |
It was about 3 months...a poultry farm. ewwww I know! It was so run down that we decided not to! He burnt the cabinets and wasn't willing to replace. So I said nah! Not for what he is asking. Quote:

Rachel I have a big blue crate I got at Wal-Mart and pee pads that I put inside it....here look at this picture. I fold them in half and place it in the back. She uses the pee pads most of the time...but lately she is out of her crate, unless I'm going out. Also I heard to neuter your boy before he starts hiking up his leg and he wont mark your house later...or spry the furniture. Best of luck with your little one. If I can help holler at me!! or someone here will help. |
