Question on washable pee pads Is it better to use these rather than the disposables? Do the babies like to use these better? Or do people generally just use them because its cheaper than buying the throw away kind? I am thinking of purchasing, but I am not sure if they will be worth it. How do you wash them? Honestly I dont feel its very sanitary to put them in the washer i use for my clothes, do you rinse them first? |
OMG...i would like to know the same thing...i'm going broke buying all those pee pads! I also would like to try the washable kind. |
i like them because I have six adults and usually a litter of puppies. The paper ones to them are just play things. I do feel that the paper ones are easier to potty train young puppies on. I do not rinse mine. There is no diaper pail smell at all and I do wash them in my washer with a ton of BLEACH. Then when I get them out, I run a rinse cycle with nothing but soap and bleach in the washer. |
I've been using the washables for a few months now, and love them! I've got 5 babies and use 2 everyday. I wash them 4 at a time in hot water and put on the deck to dry, or dry them on low heat with no dryer sheet. Lil Bit, Nancy, does a great job on them and I would highly recommend her. :D |

Do the babies ever get confused and use other cloth items to pee on? like bathroom rugs or clothes? |

so is there anyone from YT who sells these? If so, can anyone please provide their information? thanks!:D |
Is there a link to these pads? Sorry but I didn't see it. |
|
I've used both. Started out with disposable ones....but, when the new pups started shredding them and I had to pull fuzz out of their nostrils with tweezers I switched to the washable ones. I wash them in cold water with detergent and biz.....spray and wash to get poop stains out. About every fourth washing I'll use bleach (bleach does tend to rot out the plastic backing) just to disinfect.......throw them in the dryer.....it is recommended not to use fabric softner. http://www.personallypaws.com/catalog/ |
Here is a link to one of Little Bits sales so that you can see some of the fabrics. They're no longer on sale, but still a GREAT deal!! http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=93415 |
THanks for the links!!! |
How often should they get washed? |

I usually put down a new pad every day. I have enough that I wash when I get enough for a load. Thanks for the positive reviews from you who have used the ones I make. |

I just fold them in fourths with the dirty side in and stack them next to my washer. They don't stink and aren't messy that way. My laundry area is in the garage, but even if it was inside it wouldn't be bad. You could also put them in a garbage bag until time to wash if it really bothered you. |
Thanks! I'll talk to the boyfriend about the washable pads and see what he thinks about them. |
I put mine in a mesh laundry bag. They don't smell and are super absorbent, so I don't make a mess when moving them. And I wash mine separately, so I wash one every two days so I always have a clean one and a dirty one. |

I keep mine in a diaper pail that I spray with disinfectant every time I wash them. I also use Clorox when I wash them. If you don't, it doesn't get all the smell out. I really like Pooch Pads. I tried Pish Pads when I first started using them, but ended up throwing them out after only a couple of months. The plastic backing came off and they really got smelly because you aren't supposed to bleach them. I've still got part of a roll here that I have no idea what to do with. |
I'd wash them by themselves. A few people on here really find them useful, because their babies can't chew them up. |
My Lana came from Littlebit and she sent a pee pad with her. It worked so well we got more. Now if I could just get my other pup to use them and stay inside..... |
i have never been able to get a dog to use a pee pad. i need to be trained on this ;) all of my dogs have always been trained to potty outside...but in the winter..or rainy days...pee pads would be a nice help. i have a friend who uses a doggy litter box. her dog has actually never been outside  and she is 11 years old!! |
