Cat Toys for Yorkies ; ) Has anyone else bough cat toys for their yorkie(s)? I find it hard to find toys small enough for mine so a lot of his toys are cat toys. His favorite being a mouse that you pull the string and it moves, Pippin loves to pounce on it  |
I got a empty water bottle 500ml dryed it out and put a few treats in it. Leave the lid off and watch your baby try to get the treats out. Tish loved it and she is a pro now on getting the treats out. |
Neat idea yizzl, so no other holes? Just treats in the bottle with no cap? |
NO more holes in the bottle, just take the cap off. I cut her treats in small pieces this way they have no problem coming out. If your baby is not interested at first rub a touch of peanut butter at the opening. Tish knocks the bottle around the whole house and then brings it back to me when it is empty. |
Higgins has always liked bangin' around our empty Poland Spring water bottles. So I just put some treats in, like you suggested, and he is HAVING A BALL trying to get them out! That should keep him nicely occupied for the morning! Thank you! |
Sweet, we gotta do that to let Yoda occupy some time by himself! :) |
Wow I tried it and Rexi is going nuts! What a smart idea!! |
The NEW YorkieTalk Dog Toy! Cheap amusement for expensive pooches! My two buddies were waiting for me to fill it up this morning! |
How funny!!!! Cookie just discovered an empty water bottle this weekend and she loved rolling it around the house. An empty bottle happened to fall to the floor and of course there was Cookie trying to play with it. At first I was going to take it away but then I noticed she was sooooo entertained. :D Now I will just have to throw some treats in there and watch her try to figure it out. Great idea!!!! I like that the "YorkieTalk toy" ;) :p  :D ChristineMozart: I have too thought of buying cat toys but the ones i see are filled with Kibble or something like that. So I have just passed them up. -RubyC |
Heheh, YorkieTalk has its own toy! Woop! YorkieTalk... where we can SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAVE YOU MONEY! (in best informercial voice) |
I am glad they all like it...Rub a bit of peanut butter at the opening and really watch them goooooooo :) |
Mine have always loved the water bottles, I will have to try the treats too. I have some cat toys for my dogs: little balls (the ones for dogs were too big), and they stold my cats feather tied to a string on a pole and love it they pull it around the house for each other to chase and if I pull it they chase it just like cats, all three of them play with it. The only bad thing is that they tear it up a lot faster than the cats do, but I would have to say that it is one of their favorite toys (other than the stuff that they aren't supposed to have). |
speaking of stuff they are not suppose to have!!! Tish is a PRO with that. If I do not pay attention to her when she wants she will grab my clothes and run around the house with it. She even grabs the paper out of her play pen and even her poo to get my attention. ABrat she can be :) |
What a great idea. Next empty water bottle I get will be added to the other toys on the floor. I can't wait to see if Schatzie likes the treat bottle or not. They are such a joy to watch playing!! |
I just happen to have a 500ml water bottle here so I shall try that! Great idea : D |
That sound neat. I will have to try that with Charlie. Sounds like everyone else is enjoying it. :) |
I have to report that Cookie absolutely had a blast playing w/ the treat filled bottle but of course I only put a few treats in. At first she thought it was just your ordinary bottle but as she rolled it she got a whiff of her treats and there she was trying to get them out...LOL! She looks adorable as she chews and licks at it and ends up almost sitting straight up, holding the bottle w/ her front paws. Yet another toy to add to the collection. |
Hmmm, I tried the water bottle with two treats inside. Not much of an interest by Schatzie. Then came in Annabelle, nope she cared not either. They acted spoiled like, "heah, it don't squeek, kinda hard to bite, nope don't care, whatelse ya got?" Good grief...I left it on the floor for two days, they only walked around it. Oh, well I tried. I even rolled it across the floor, showed them the treats inside and all. Maybe Im not doing this right? :( |
Is it a special treat at all? Like some beef jerky for dogs? Perhaps something with a strong scent will attract them schatzie? |
You just have very discriminating dogs who wouldn't stoop to getting something out of one of your emptly bottles! Higgins, of course, could care less! He's sort of your basic beer-drinkin-dawg, while yours would go the vintage wine route....... ;) Don bought a case of Poland Spring water bottles that we use. They were sitting in the corner of the kitchen floor. These are the bottles we put the treats in when they are empty. Higgins LOVES to chew the labels off and rip 'em up. Poor little guy was bored last night while we were doing something else. We heard a lot of heavy thumps. Hmmmm. Went out to the kitchen and there was Higgins sitting in a puddle. He had gotten out some bottles of water to play with -- FULL bottles -- and bit right through the plastic...... Aren't they fun? |
I guess not all yorkies like hitting the bottle :) . Yes ,put some smelly treats in it and then rub a little peanut butter at the opening. That might get there attention. |
Discriminating?? Nah, darn Schatzie and Annabelle would both roll in the cows droppings in our pasture if they could get to it. I try to keep them prissy but they sure don't act like it. I will try to rub some good stuff on the end and see if that works, thanks! :o |
Hi, I'm new to the site. Your water bottle idea is very cute. I put a treat on the floor and then put a tupperware bowl over it and my baby just loves it. |
Welcome PrinceAmos! Tell us about your Yorkie! Glad you are enjoying the site! :) |
Thanks Fasteddie! I just addopted my baby on 10/2/04. He was only 8 weeks old. His name is Amos and he is my little prince! He's the first yorkie I've ever owned and I'm smitten!!! I'll add a picture of him in a few days. |
What a sweetie he must be! We look forward to seeing him! Be sure to take LOTS and LOTS of pictures when he's a baby, they grow up too fast! |
Treat under bowl, what a good idea. I'm gonna try that one too. The bottle worked for a while but then Ahia gave up on it. |
Welcome to YorkieTalk, PrinceAmos!! So, Amos is your first Yorkie? You are in for LOTS of pleasant surprises!! :) Toto is our first also ... and she has absolutely been the most fun my husband and I have ever had!! These are without a doubt the most intelligent, animated little creatures I have ever seen!! Hope you like it here!! ;) |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk! Aren't Yorkies the BEST little dogs? I've owned many dogs in my life, but Higgins is our first Yorkie. They are just so different and so cute, they become the center of your life. :D We love pictures of our Yorkies.....can't ever see enough of 'em, so be sure to post one of Prince Amos..... In fact, I like the picture gallery so much, I look at the pictures every day because it just cheers me up so much to see those little darlings.l |
I tried the bottle thing with Pippin and he loves it! First he tears the lable off than he barks at it for awhile than he attacks it...quite funny to watch and hear :D |
