Default dangerous Toys

What toys should we stay away from? I bought these little tennis balls toys for snickers and brought it to the breeder. She said that the tennis balls are dangerous because the choke on the fuzz.

Does anyone have a list or suggested items to stay away from?

Hi there, i'm from Toronto too
Both my girls play with little tennis balls from the pet store and they have never had a problem. I would stay away from Rawhide and pigs ears. Bully sticks are a good substitute. Also watch the stuffed toys because if you have a chewer like mine they will rip holes in them and have a hay day with the stuffing.
When do u get your pup? It's so exciting!!

Well you have to be careful with the things they chew. Also I dont give them any stuffed animals with button eyes that come off and they could swallow.

I was in the dollar store and they had these cute little squeaky toys, well, they ripped to shreds in seconds! I think if you get good hard rubber and no little pieces you are ok. I don't every let my dogs play with toys unless we are in the room with them so I can monitor, also. Tucker loves stuffed animals best of all, and he doesn't rip the stuffing out of them at all, but our lab pulls them apart and eats them!

About the only thing that I feel fairly safe with are the Kong toys and also the Nylabone. No greenies, no denta bones, no rawhide, on & on & on!

Plush toys are Ok if they don't have anything they can pull off (i.e., buttons, eyes, etc).

No rawhides for any future pups of mine either....you never know just what chemicals might be in them or were used in their making

Yes think about it... Go to your search engine and put in Greenies... Several dogs died (large dogs too) I guess the manufacturer states greenies are 100% digestable. Fact is they are only 80% digestable. They may have changed their packaging since the lawsuit but there was a bunch of controversary over greenies because one of the dogs that had trouble did not die, the owner had emergency surgery. The Doc finds this big green blob and asked the owner if he knew what this was. They said it looked like the old fashion type of carpet padding, kind of rolled in a ball. The blob was blocking the intestines of the dog. The owner recognized it as greenies right away.

Most people agree, depending on the dog. Some gulp down things, some savor it. Which means what is safe for one temperment is unsafe for another. If greenies do not digest, they will cause a blockage, this is agreed by all involved in that lawsuit but the fact is, no matter what we feed our babies, if it is not 100% digestable, don't give it - TO EAT OR TO PLAY, unless properly supervised.............. My Baby is not a destoyer of toys or bones - she is the savoring type. Her favorite tpys are catnip-free cat toys.. Especially the small foam balls. She spends hours & hours throwing, fetching and popping them into the air. This woud not be a good toy for one who chews, my breeder reccommended only rib-eye bones from Wallmart. I think Chloe would be board with only one type of toy so I supervise with all kinds. No eyes/buttons/small tiny removal parts. She also loves small squeekie toys

I saw this both ways when I gave my larger size Yorkie a Greenie. Was shocked when she pooped out a huge ball of greenie and then the next time she threw up a huge blob of it and then I realized how dangerous they were. The dog loved them. I was so lucky they they came out on their own without surgical intervention. NEVER NEVER give them to your Yorkies....(or any dogs for that matter) Large dogs have had the same problems.

Imagine losing a valuable and much loved baby to something as stupid as a GREENIE treat.....I shudder at the thought.

Oh I would surely suggest you re evaluate GREENIES. I have seen for myself how UNdigestible they are.
I have been using Petrodex chew sticks..the babies love them and so far I have not seen any adverse effects from them.

Default a word of caution about kong toys

I thought kong toys were indestructable, so one day a few months ago, when Ginger was under the table happily chewing away on her favorite kong (size: small, color: red), I heard this odd sucking noise, and she came flying out from under the table looking distressed with her mouth open. I pried her jaw further open and felt inside her mouth. She had severed the end off the kong (the kong thats like a bubble-shaped funnel) and it was mostly blocking her airway. Of course there's a hole in the end (hence the sucking noise), so she was getting some air, but scary all the same). The next day when we were at obedience training, I asked my trainer if she'd ever heard of this...she recommended I buy a large size kong (she shouldn't be able to get the WHOLE end in her mouth), or the black kong. I tossed her other small kong toys and replaced them with the larger size, she still likes them (admittedly, not as much), and I feel much safer. I check them regularly and never leave her alone with them.

Any opinions on the hard white nylabones? (the nonedible ones) She loves those also, as well as the real sterilized bones.

My two, love playing with either cushions and flip flops.
But i've been told not to let them get away with playing ''fetch the cushion'' as if they chew the fabric it can get caught in their throat and they can swallow the zipper...

We use nylabones and Bailey loves them. Even the ones that are not edible.
