Kong stuffing ideas Just curious what do you guys stuff your kong with? I looked at the ingredients of the Puppy Kong Stuffing... it wasn't very healthy... he also eats it so quickly. What else would you recommend stuffing? What does your yorkie like the most?:) |
I've used yogurt, peanut butter (I use all natural, no added salt), mashed bananas, little pieces of green beans or carrots, etc. They also used to love them frozen (specifically the yogurt & bananas) just fill, then freeze. They last longer that way too. |
good ideas. I hadn't thought of yogurt or bananas. Are bananas ok for dogs!? lol I will also have to freeze them because he goes through his peanut butter in minutes THANKS~! |
Yes bananas are fine. Just mash them up, mix with yogurt, fill & freeze . Other fruits they can have include strawberries, melon, apples (no skin or seeds), cherries, etc. NO RAISINS OR GRAPES though. |
thanks so much. i'm making a list of what he can and can't eat and putting it on my fridge! |
Great idea!  There are a lot of threads here about "safe" foods - just search. There are also some recipes to make some food & treats yourself. |
Do you use plain yogurt? |
Yes, plain yogurt :) |
I use plain yogurt sometimes but for some reason, Jackson has gotten sick of it and he gets lazy, lol. He'll only eat it half-way thru and then give up. I mostly use wet food now. Put some canned food into it, some kibble on the bottom sometimes, and then freeze it. He loves it and it lasts a while. He's never liked PB. |
Do you freeze the stuffed kong - the entire rubber shell filled with stuffing? I think it's a great idea to use wet food and freeze it! :) Thanks for sharing! |
What size Kong do you use with a yorkie?? |
Also mix 1:1 plain canned pumpkin and plain yogurt and put it in the freezer. They just love it. And it is keeps them regular ;) |
Teri, that made me laugh and spit out my coffee.... LOL!!! |

Yes you freeze the whole kong. Also what is great so you do not have any down time with it. It takes a while to freeze. There are kong easy freeze trays. They are ice cube trays shaped like a kong so you can use them to stuff the kong with. Fill the tray with whatever you want (even peanut butter)and freeze. They make "cubes" . You can make a whole bunch. |

I've only seen them online. |
You can always put whatever it is (peanut butter, chicken broth, etc.) directly inside the Kong and freeze. I'm not sure if this was mentioned. |
Titus doesnt seem to care about the kong when I put it down on the floor but once i have it in my hands he starts licking lol I used the peanut butter in a squirt can that Kong sells |
BTW... I put pineapples and yogurt in Reigns Kongs. I cut up two or three pineapple chunks and mix it with yogurt and sometimes I add a little coconut water to stretch it. |
I bought Molly the Kong for puppies and I don't think they have freeze trays for that size :( What size do you recommend for her. She is only 2-1/2 pounds and 6 months old. |

Thanks Jess87! I love Blue Springs but we are getting ready to build a house on our land in Excelsior Springs hopefully we'll move by the end of the year. I will try filling and freezing her kong. She is a chew maniac right now with all her teething going on :) |
I have the Kong they make for the large parrots... perfect for a Yorkie. |
