| Fun things to do with Yorkies...? I need some ideas for playtimes with little Sushi- He is getting bored of the 'ol grab-the-toy-and-I'll-chase-you games. Currently, it is snowy and cold out so inside ideas would be preferred but outside ideas are OK too. Sushi loves the snow and has a coat so temperature is not an issue but I don't want him getting too cold. Sushi doesn't like tug-of-war and I'd like something that tuckers him out after so we can cuddle Oh, and it's his half birthday (6 months!) so he will be eating a big treat, if that affects things. Thanks in advance. Sushipoo |

| The best way to wear em out is taking him for a walk- It is snowing here too but i just bundle her up in a sweater and her winter coat and she loves it. Layla likes games where i hide a small treat under a toy and she has to find it |

| Sounds fun Yup, Sushi loves walks - especially if we go run about in the field up the hill. The only thing Sush doesn't like about the snow is the fact that it's cold Silly dog. |

| What a sweet name! Post some pics of little Sushi! As for things to do... I toss around some smaller tennis balls with Hiro and while I do that I teach him fetch/bring it back/drop it. I mostly just play the usual snatch and grab games with him too! lol I don't know anything really different to do. I also take the time when he is playful to try and teach him some basic commands. Since he likes to make me happy this works out well for both of us! I think that mental exercise is just as important as physical exercise but I know when Hiro gets tired of thinking and learning and when to stop lol I find that the best way to tire Hiro out is to take him on his walks. This works physically and mentally I find... Lately I've been slacking since it's starting to get cold outside, but I've been paying for it because he's been naughty lately. lol It gets dark really early now and the husband doesnt like me to be walking in the dark... and since I don't have a yard, I have limited time. I suppose that you could even take Sushi out to a closed tennis court or a dog park (if you're ok with playing with bigger dogs) to let him tear around. We don't have any snow yet, but I'm looking forward to see how Hiro reacts to it! Hope I've helped a little! Good luck! Maybe I heard somewhere that Yorkies are good at agility? Maybe if you have some doggie agility classes around that might be fun? I don't know anything about it, but I enjoy watching them!!

| I'll post pictures as soon as I can find a decent one. He's not very good with pictures. And for the other poster (can't remember her username) Oh my gosh, I've seen your blog before and that was what made me decide to get a yorkie - what a coincedence!!!!! I have a blog too and that's were the only good pictures of sushi are. But I can't remember the URL... I'll look in my computer to find pics even if they aren't good. They are from a while ago but still look like him at least He has longer hair now and is no longer quite so fuzzy. He is also a lot bigger.Actually, they are too big or something- over 1 MB so I can't post them. I will try again soon. |

| Well my first suggestion would be a second Yorkie for him to play with. But baring that, if you don't mind picking up a bit of a mess...when your toilet paper roll is empty, take the cardboard roll put a biscuit or treat - nothing soft like peanut butter - in it and fold the ends in to close it. Toss on the floor and watch as he tries to get to the treat. Some times there is quiet a mess of shredded cardboard, some times not so much. I don't mind cleaning it up occasionally as they seem to have a lot of fun "digging" out the elusive hiding treat.

| Learn some tricks! I recently purchased a book called "Everything Dog Training and Tricks Book" and it has some great tips and exercises to teach dogs tricks. This is a really good way to bond with your dog and it is good for the pup's mentality to be challenged!
