| what should i buy for my new yorkie? i am getting a yorkie soon and i need to know what type of toys and stuff to buy for when she arrives here. She is under 1 year old. Do you think if I buy her a puppy bed (a round fuzzy one) that she will actually sleep in it? |

| Hi and congrats on your new baby! I would buy puppy tearless shampoo and conditoner, plus a leave in conditioner. Also have a few good combs ready (a pin brush and a small metal comb - kind of like a flea comb - to remove gook by her eyes). You should also have a big supply of Nutrical, which is an IMPORTANT vitamin supplement that should be given 3 times a day to your dog. Also a few greenies and bully sticks would be fun treats for her. I would get her PLUSH or BERBER toys. Check out www.petedge.com. They have great toys and the prices are unbelieveable! Good luck with your new baby and keep us posted!!

| Our dogs LOVE the kongs! Any of the kongs! They go crazy for them with or without treats inside AND they last the longest of any toys we ever give them.

| A crate or an x-pen would be go so you have something to keep your baby in while you are gone or can't pay very close attention to her. It's also good for potty training! Make sure to get bowls made from metal or ceramic because the plastic one harbor bacteria which can cause a rash (I learned that the hard way!) I would also get a high quality food (do a search on here for good foods..there have been lots of discussions on which is best.) We also got some soft treats. Linus loves the Nature's Choice training treats that look like little pork chops and Gooberlicious by Bil-Jac. Hard treats are good too, but no rawhide (gets too soft and can cause choking) and no pigs ears (pork products are hard for dogs to digest...some people give them in very limited amounts, which I think is ok.) Also, get a harness and leash for walking...NO COLLARS because yorkies have very sensitive tracheas. And I doubly second the nutrical! www.petedge.com is awesome for all of this because of their super cheap prices or Petsmart is always great too! And don't forget clothes and bows to dress up you baby! Sorry this is so long...I just wish someone would have told me all of this...I would have saved a lot of money from mistakes.

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | I just discovered "Nylabones" thanks to a YT tip. Eddie loves them, and he doesn't swallow them like he did rawhide bones.

| There's a line of toys called petstages. They make mini ones. I have a mine pyramid that jiggles, a crinkly hoop, & and chew toy. He likes this but his favorites are plush stuffed animals with squekers (target has an elephant with a squeker in it's belly arm & leg) and we just got him nyla-bones, he loves his puppy one. I would get a crate & a soft and squishy bed, pee-pads, a good no odor stain & odor remover so he doesn't go back to the same spot and potty in the house.

| If you have trouble with fleas, advange doesn't work long, try Frontline ! I Tried advange and they returned in 2 weeks, my baby was up alot during the night until we tried frontline! Where I live its hard not to have them even if you buy the spray for the yard!

My dogs only like toys that squeak. My little ones like little flexible rubber squeak toys or even small plush ones. They HATE anthing hard or thick rubber like the Kong toy. I bought that stupid thing and the can of crap you put on it and no one cared. Stick to the simple things.

| I was just going to mention the bowls - never feed your new pup with plastic bowls. Above everything else a quality food is so very important - usually available in lg. pet supply stores and not grocery stores. Yorkies eat so little that there is hardly no excuse for not feeding good food. (sure cuts down on vet bills and as with humans YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT) If you were getting a German Shepard, I could see where it might be a hardship. Take one day at a time and if it seems abit overwhelming just ask questions here. Remember we have all made mistakes and just go on from there. Enjoy!!
