New to yorkietalk Hi there, my name is Shannon, I am new to this forum and wanted to say hi. I am a Canadian citizen living in UK (Edinburgh, Scotland) and am the proud owner of my first Yorkie. He is 5 1/2 months old and is over 10lbs already, we have had him since he was 6 weeks old. I was thinking he would be a wee bit smaller but the more I see the smaller yorkies the happier I am with his giant stature. My husband, daughter and I will be returning to Canada next summer as our work contract will be completed and we will be flying Monty home with us. I am interested to learn all I can about this amazing little dog. I love the way the UK socializes dogs and my little guy is well aquainted with many different people and has been in contact with just about every breed of dog imaginable. I wouldn't have it any other way, he loves everyone and is so friendly.

thank you! I originally looked up this site as I was concerned about his size. It is so nice to see that there are so many larger yorkies out there. I am tired of people questioning me about him being purebred. He is not meant to be a show dog and I know he is larger than the standards but he is my little sweetheart and I love all 10lbs of him God knows how big he will be when he is full grown!!

Welcome Shannon! I always recommend two books to my new parents..."Yorkies for Dummies" is the first one...it is super and has tons of information in it...you will use it for reference forever! The Second book is "Yorkshire Terriers: A Smart Owner's Guide"...it is also a great book and has a short training CD inside the back cover! Between YT, and these two books, I dont think you can possibly come up with something that cant be answered! I love your baby...and dont pay any attention to the people that have a propensity to look down their noses at the larger, sturdier members of our breed!

I am so happy I found this site!! I hope to meet yorkie owners from UK and I am very happy that you are not all judging based on size! I was starting to feel that poor Monty was going to be an outcast in the yorkie community.

It's lovely to read your message ... I know what having so much love for our Yorkies means as well. I have two Pixie our gorgeous female and GI Joe who is our timid male .... they have brought so much happiness into our home. I live in Tipperary, Ireland but I have a friend in Canada who also has a Yorkie ... I know she is on Yorkie Talk somewhere but I am in touch with her on Facebook. I will ask her for her YT name and get back to you if you like. Have fun with your lovely Yorkie Shannon, Hugs, Pauline, Pixie and GI Joe | |
