| How young is too young to stud? I have a 10-month old boy. People have said that he must be at least a year to stud, but I think he is ready. I've see him ejaculate after he humps his stuffed animal. And not to be too gross, but he's very well equipt. I'm not looking to become a breeder. I just wanted to have one of his puppies. So, if he is ejaculating, he can breed, right? Or does he need to be older in order to pass along healthy traits or what not? Any advice???? |

| they can breed from 6-9 months of age but you shouldn't breed a dog just to get a puppy! what about the other puppys? and does your dog have akc family background? does he meet the standards? there's alot to be considered before breeding yorkies not just letting them breed just because!!

| like the post before, you do have to consider alot before breeding. what if the female doesnt get pregnant??? who is the problem, the male or female? what if the female dies while delivering b/c the pups were too big....who's to blame? what if the owners come after you for 1/2 the c-section cost (if this happens)? this is just the start of the questions you need to be asking yourself and place it all in a stud contract. believe me, i have studded my kirby out and it is alot of work. you have to be able to tell if the bitch is in standing heat (most owners don't know) you have to know how to place them together if this is needed...if the female gets really upset when they tie, you need to know how to place them in your lap and hold them. the male can get seriously injured during the tie so you really need to know how to calm down the female. lots of time if when the female gets tied, she will try and run.....would you know how to get her without hurting the male? wow....so much is involved here. most people think it is just placing two dogs together but it's not. just do your research....make sure you have a pedigree and all the paper work....up to date on all shots...read, read, read, and get a mentor. i hope this helps you

Donating YT 14K Club Member | While some males and reproduce as early as 6 months, most breeders will wait until they are at least a year old. This gives the sperm time to mature.
