| Little Biewer Yorkies in Florida Beware I wanted to share my experience with breeder Terry Castonguay of Little Biewer Yorkies in Florida. I contacted Terry several months ago letting her know I was interested in getting a biewer. She let me know she had litters coming in September and would keep me updated. On September 20th, my puppy was born. She was the only female and there were three males. Terry was great throughout the entire process. She sent me pictures and video and updates on her growth and everything was going smoothly. I couldn't wait to get my new baby girl! She turned 8 weeks old this past Tuesday and was scheduled to be delivered via a pet nanny on November 22nd, making her 9 weeks old and only 1 pound (which I have to admit, was a little intimidating to me but I had every intention on taking her to the vet the day I got her to get thorough advice on how to properly care for a dog her size). This past Monday (11/14), one day before she turned 8 weeks, I was told that Pinot (that's what I decided to name my pup), and her three brothers were going to the vet to get their first round of shots. Tuesday (11/15), I followed up via email (I don't have her phone number and have never spoken to her on the phone) asking how the vet appointment went. She responded with, "everything went well 😃." So I thought to myself, awesome I can't wait to get her! I didn't hear from her Wednesday (11/16). Early Thursday morning (11/17), I received an email from Terry stating that my puppy had an allergic reaction to one of the shots given at the vet so they weren't able to give the other shots, therefore she was not issued a health certificate. Wait a minute... on Tuesday, she responded that everything went fine?? If the puppy had a reaction, it would have been on Monday so she should have let me know this on Tuesday when I asked how the vet appointment went. She let me know that the puppy wasn't going to be ready by the 22nd which I let her know was completely fine as I wanted her to be healthy. I asked her multiple times what the puppy's symptoms were, the severity, if she needed to stay overnight in the hospital, no response to these questions. I also asked her to call me and she never did. However, she had already cashed my check so I believe I should have been contacted sooner with the option to put her in the care of a professional veterinarian and pay a vet bill. That did not happen. She did assure me that the puppy would be fine, that the medicine was just hard on her little body. I told her I would lay off rescheduling the flight because she sent me a video that afternoon of her perked up and playing with her mother outside. Thursday night, I asked her how the puppy was doing. Friday morning (11/18), she responded saying the puppy was going to stay there a while and she was going to refund all of my money and when she was better if I still wanted her I could pay again. I trusted that Pinot was in great care and said she could keep my money. Again, she assured me she would be fine she just needed more time. Friday night (last night), she emailed me saying that the puppy was not going to make it "I guess" are the words she used, she said she didn't know what happened because she was fine the week before, and then proceeded to send me a picture of the dog laying on the floor, dying, for proof since she didn't want to be "harassed" anymore. I guess harassment is asking questions about what exactly is wrong with the dog as far as her symptoms. Which I still do not know. She refunded me all of my money through PayPal prior to telling me that the dog was dying, deposit included. I let her know I was devastated but thanked her for refunding my money. I received no response. I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt and give her 24 hours to repspond as she is usually very prompt. But nothing. I expected her to at least offer her sincerest apologies (since she claims to love her pups) and ask if I wanted to put my deposit towards a puppy in the next litter, but that didn't happen. Looking back at all of the details, I don't believe my puppy passed away. Here's why: about 5 weeks in, a man buying one of the males in the litter offered me $500 towards another puppy so he could have my puppy. I declined the offer as I was already attached. Also, I received a video from Terry stating that she loved the puppy and would've kept her herself. I believe either Terry kept her for herself to breed, the man who wanted to buy her originally offered a great deal more money, or she really was sick but not from the shots. This is still so new and although I never met the dog, I was so attached. I am not trying to bash Terry as I like to see the best in people and can only hope this was a huge misunderstanding due to lack of communication, but I did expect more from the reputable breeder she claims to be. On the bitter sweet side, I have found another breeder who is amazing and spoke with me on the phone (which I never did with Terry), for an hour last night and has one sweet little girl left from her last litter that I am getting on December 13th. I pray that this hasn't happened to anyone else because it is completely devastating. If you have or are considering purchasing a puppy from Terry, I advise doing some research before. |
