| "Yorkieposh" - Any information? Hi everyone - I'm looking for a Yorkie pup and thought I'd check here first. Has anyone ever heard of Home ? Even if not, I'll take some opinions after looking at the site. I'm taking my time but would like to make a decision within the next few weeks. Thanks in advance for your help. |

| I've never heard of her. I think it's a bit concerning that she doesn't post pictures of her parents on her site, so if you contact her, ask her for pictures (or better yet, a VIDEO) of the parents. Also, additional pictures/videos of the pup. Ask if she does health clearances and ask if there has been any genetic issues with any of her dogs. If you can, ask for a pedigree or ask what lines she bought her dogs from. Ask for references (past buyers and vet). However, they may make up false stories so ask them to be completely honest. Ask them questions like: "Have you run into any health or behavioral problems whatsoever" and "Did you visit her home. How was the environment like? How were the parents?" and "What was the condition of the puppy when you picked him/her up--clean, happy, healthy? Scared? Smelly?", etc., This statement is a bit worrisome: "We focus our breedings on puppies who will mature around 3-7pounds. " , it should be 4-7 pounds, not 3 pound pups because those would classify as "teacups" which is not a healthy weight/range. This statement: "But I do agree that if you have small children a teacup size yorkie maybe a bit fragile for your household." suggests that she breeds teacups, I think. Not sure. So is this: "I take a U.S. Post Office Money Order for deposits." If you put down a deposit, consider doing it through Paypal. That way, if she is scamming you, you can report it to Paypal. "I also have layaway plans." This statement is a little odd--pups aren't Christmas presents from Walmart that you can do payments on! It is alright if the customer is having a financial situation, but she is stating this to *ALL* customers.... This too: "I have Dams and Sires with champion pedigrees, . Many have dual Registration with the AKC and CKC. Remember... "You get what you pay for". You can be sure of a friendly, high quality puppy from Yorkie Posh." which is this? Continental Kennel Club or Canadian Kennel Club??? There's not much to determine from her website so I highly recommend asking her the question I stated above.

| I really appreciate the response. The money order method concerned me too. I'm comfortable with the protection provided by PayPal and can't remember the last time I used a money order for anything. Thanks for the caution on the 3-7 pounds statement as well. I'm not concerned about weight as much as I am concerned about simply having a healthy and happy pet. She does have a picture of the father on the "Our Puppies" page but that's all I could find. I'll be sending an email with questions so hopefully I can get some answers soon. If not, I'll keep looking. Thanks again! |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | There are many red flags on this site. What's her name, for example, many puppy mill breeders just change the name of the website after there is enough bad information out there on the web about them. Even her Facebook page, doesn't have any real names on it. Although, she says she sells her dogs as pets only, no breeding, which is an indication of a quality breeder, for an additional fee, you can get breeding rights. No good breeder would do this. She says some of her dogs are duel registered, with the CKC and AKC, there is really no reason to do this unless, she doesn't have breeding rights to her dogs. She should be showing pictures of her breeding dogs, not of her past pups and puppy buyers. Most reputable buyers will not tell you adult size and those that do are very uniformed. Between 3 and 5 pounds is the most popular range for the backyard breeder to use. Good breeders know their lines going back 5 generation on each side and that taken along with birth weight and 6 week weight gives them a little indication of the range, but mostly backyard breeders will tell you what you want to hear. They are puppy salesmen.

| Thanks Nancy. I did send an email with a lot of questions. I looked at the FB page and you're right that it gives very little info. The more I see, the less comfortable I feel. Of course now I'm really curious about the answers to the questions I sent. I asked for references, health screening and history info, # of litters per year, where the pups are kept, etc. I figured my search would take some time so I'm in no rush. Better safe than sorry. Thanks again. It was very helpful to get a reality check! |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Not sure what this means, but if someone here contacted you about selling you a pup, be very cautious, while we have some lovely breeders here, we also have some backyard breeders who use Yorkietalk to market their pups. Make sure you can visit the breeders house in person to ensure the breeding dogs are being treated right.

I have to agree with the BYB's PMing you though. I saw that this one person posted in the General forum about pups available so I contacted her and got pictures, then asked her a TON of questions about references, etc., and haven't received a reply in over a month. I would still be careful. Maybe this doesn't mean anything, but usually I look at the breeder's # of posts. If they're over 20,000, I know they're a central part of the community here at YT so they most likely are reputable.

| Maybe this is just a personal reference and I am sure that there are reputable breeders out there that just aren't computer savvy, but I usually stay away from breeders whose sites are EXTREMELY disorganized, cluttered, and messy (like yorkieposh, unfortunately, for example). If they don't have enough time and don't care about cleaning up their sites or providing adequate information, how would they be capable enough of whelping and taking care of pups? Those are just my thoughts.
