My personal opinion, 6-8 months is wonderful! Still a lot of puppy left in them yet hopefully potty-trained and socialized already. My 1st was 8 wks when I got her - a lot more work then I had anticipated, took long time to potty train, dog was completely dependent on me for quite some time.

This last pup I got at 18 months of age. She was already potty-trained, socialized, was a lot easier transition for both her and us (husband and I).

My husband would agree w your outlook of children coming into the house at the age of 2!

There is really no down side to it. They should just stay at least 12 wks because they learn allot from Mom but the longer they stay with Mom , the more they learn from her. The Plus side is you will get a stronger dog as they are not so fragile by that age.
Much less stress about hypoglycemia & puppy vaccinations.

The only downside that I can see with it is habits may have been formed that you dont like. Peepads/vs outside training, however it is still a puppy and you can train otherwise. Id just be very sure of where the puppy came from and know about its first 8 months or so. I think its a great age.

agree, I would strongly prefer outside vs peepad

if everything works out the pup we are looking at id from a very reputable breeder, she is giving her up because she is only around 4lbs which is perfect for us

We will be visiting a couple of breeders this weekend. Should we decide to put a deposit on a pup, is there a way to identify/mark him / her without offending a breeder. I am not sure I'll be able to tell for certain in one month if the pup we are taking home is the one we picked out of several available. Thank you.

don't worry! i'm assuming all the breeders you are checking are all very reputable, so they will be able to tell! i have a litter of 7 running around me now, and can tell them all appart from their faces, little 'barks', and the way they toddle about! i think most breeders colour code the puppies until they can see the differences- for their daily weighings etc... and of course the personality diferences (which i imagine you will be advised upon by the breeder) and general mannerisms are also a give away. if the breeder is worth supporting, she will be able to tell your pup appart! but if your worried, ask them how they tell them appart...

Most breeders have tiny clippers to clip the hair off the ears, you can ask them to trim a stip of hair off the stomach of your puppy so it is marked so you can tell it is the same puppy when you pick it up.
The breeder may be able to recognize each puppy, but this way you can tell also.

Congratulations on your new addition!! Very cute pup! It speaks volumes for you and your wife as pet owners to have done the research you did before deciding on a puppy. I'm sure your family will enjoy many years with this little one. You'll have to post pics as she grows.
