Recommend Breeder

This forum and some of the people here have helped me through some very rough spots with my child's passing but I cannot in good conscience continue to be a 'full' member or consider becoming a donating member while there continues to be back biting and nastiness among people who are owned by one of the most intelligent, loving breeds that God put on this planet. I cannot tell you how sad this makes me. I wish everyone and their families Love, Light, Compassion and Joy in this New Year.

I am sorry you feel that way, I in no way said Anne was a bad breeder or referred any nastiness toward her.
My questions were to and about the YTCA, We have been told over and over on this forum that is WRONG for some parti owners to show their parti carrier dogs in AKC. That doing so is dishonest and unreputable.
If that is the case why is it different for a YTCA member?
I was merely asking questions.

I don't understand why it is backbiting or nasty for someone to ask a question. I find it offensive, as a donating member of this forum and active participant, when people come on here with this attitude and suggest that those of us who ARE "full member" or "donating members" somehow lack conscience. You can't be a full member or donating member in "good conscience" but I can, and will, and continue try to offer my friendship and information to those who feel differently than you.

I can see how people might think the comments were directed towards Anne because that is who this breeder review is about. Perhaps if people would like to debate the YTCA, they could start another thread so it doesn't look like something against the reviewed breeder?

You could even bring up her lines in said new thread for your points, but it would not be in the breeder review section where it may look like you are trying to reflect poorly upon her when that is apparently not your intention?

It's difficult to comment until all the facts are out, because so much depends on whether she knew the dog was a carrier before the breeding, and if she purposely bred it to another parti carrier. Something I've never felt that was truly understood by many is that there is no known marker for the parti trait, and a breeder can't really test for it; so that's why I would like to see the lines kept separate, if there were a test, it wouldn't be such a big deal.

If a breeder has a dog that produces a parti, the YTCA recommends that those dogs be spayed and neutered and placed in pet homes. In other words, it's not a sin to produce a dog with the fault, but what do you do afterwards when you discover it has the fault? Do you market it as rare and unique, or do you place it in a pet home? Again, we must look at the breeders' goals, was she doing this to breed for the parti trait, or had she been mislead by the other breeder involved? Did the other breeder know her dog was a carrier? There has been talk that many parti breeders are trying to get the parti gene in every line they can, and I think breeders need to be extra careful with whom they trust. Also, I believe that some parti breeders seem to think if they can breed their dog to a champion, any champion, their offspring will automatically be improved; this is just not the case. Again, there are some very complex rules when it comes to breeding to correct certain faults, and there are no shortcuts if you are doing it properly.

The YTCA doesn't have one set of rules for members and one set of rules for other breeders, they just have a code of ethics and a code of conduct that they believe every breeder should follow, and those breeders who are admitted to the club, do promise to follow these guidelines. There are consequences for not doing so, and one of them is suspension from the club. However, proof is needed that they did something unethical, and just producing a parti in itself, is not unethical, was she breeding for it; that's what they see as unethical. What has she done with the dog in question, is she still breeding it?

That is why I brought this up Nancy, In Feb 2007 Ridin the Storm sired Parti pups. DNA was done. No hearsay there. AKC verified.
In post 3 of this thread, smepperson says she got her pup from Hylan in December and that it was out of Ridin the Storm. So apparently Anne has still been breeding him for the last 4 years even though he is a parti carrier.

I'm not criticizing you at all for bringing this up, and I'm truly thankful. I learned that it's best not to jump to conclusions, we need to know for sure that she continued to breed the dog after the DNA results were known, and this is definitely something that should be addressed by the YTCA.

Well, in my opinion, it's not okay at all, and I do hold YTCA members to even a higher standard since they agreed to certain things when they joined, so in my opinion, it's worse. However, we all know that there are people who want to join the YTCA for the wrong reasons. Caveat emptor!

Thank you for posting this. Personally I felt a bit attacked for recommending Hylan Acres and for expressing my positive experience with them.

Since this was posted in the Breeder review section, the rules for this section state.

Just to clarify I only posted what I did because I thought you wanted to discuss a YTCA matter. If you wanted to express things about the breeder specifically, I did not mean to imply your opinion was not valid here. I thought this was going to turn into another YTCA debate and was just trying to locate it to a thread where everyone could discuss this specifically with an appropriate heading. That's all. No offense to anyone meant.
