Grubb Kennels This is my first time posting so I do not know if this is exactly where this question belongs but please move it if it will be better somewhere else. So anyway.. I am looking into buying a yorkie pup and I have found a few kennels but one in particular I don't know anything about and I as wondering if any one knows anything about a place called Grubb Kennels run by Chloe Grubb in Miami, OK. They seem legitimate and say they are family run but that doesn't necessarily mean anything with the world of puppy mills. Please let me know what you guys think or if anyone has got a puppy from them. Thank you! -Jess |
I am sure you will get replys from more experienced members......but I think that breeder with more than two breeds is usually a red flag. Good luck with your search :) |
Sorry I never heard of them. I don't know where you are in NY but there are at least 2 reputable breeders on Long Island. They are listed on the YTC website as suggested breeders. You may want to check there for all available breeders. Anyway, Good Luck in your search for the perfect little one!!! |

Thank you guys for the advice. I'll keep looking then. |
Please do not buy from there! :thumbdown Please try to contact a breeder that belongs to the Yorkshire Terrier Club of American (YTCA). If they don't have a litter and they know of someone who does - they will direct you to them. Yorkshire Terrier Club of America About The Club Here's some good info found here in the YT Library. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...uy-yorkie.html |
Hi my name is Lora I live in Grove Oklahoma about 30 minutes from this breeder.... I have been by her place I know where it is.... If you want I would be happy to check her out. Do you need me to check out a certain puppy for you? She does not need to know..... Not a problem for me at all!!!! I would be happy to play detective actually I would be honored to..Please call my cell 918-964-1750, tomorrow if you need me to do this. Let me know Okay? :D :aimeeyork:animal-pa:animal-pa |
Thank you so much for the offer Lora but I'm going to take the advice of previous posters and look closer to home. I do want to be able to meet the pups before I buy. |

I know nothing of that breeder. But just because someone is a club member does not mean they aren't a reputable breeder. Just wanted to add that;) |

Both sites have very helpful information on dogs and breeders. AKC has a page for folks to list their registered puppies that they have available, and all kinds of information listed therein. Both sites have a way of looking for breeders by state. I am sorry that I am not good at posting sites. So unless there is a page on Yorkie Talk somewhere and cj125 has put two good sites on her post , one can always google or do some sort of web search for AKC or YTCA and the information can be looked throuh easily on both sites. good luck |

FYI Local Clubs also require sponsorship and to be accepted by exhisting members with a minimume of 2/3 vote. But, as you say there are good and bad breeders in every organization, no club is perfect. But, the YTCA does their best to police members. If a member is known to commit an infraction of club and AKC rules, they are dealt with. If they are suspended by AKC they are automatically suspended from YTCA. |

Stay away from the classifieds, internet, wholesalers, pet stores and of course puppy mills. |
Several red flags on this kennel. Their contract is horrible. Pretty much won't be responsible for anything; mites, ringworm, parvo, nothing. They are administering the first vaccination at 6 weeks of age. They only guarantee the pup for 6 months; Liver Shunt can reveal itself very early or after a year of age. Another red flag they breed multiple breeds and they ship wee pups at a very young age. One thing that is a big attractant is their very low puppy fees. |

The OP did say that she would look closer to home, now. |

However, I agree with the red flags about this particular web site/breeder. |

However, if one is looking for a Yorkshire Terrier Breeder, The YTCA breeder referral coordinator, lives in the state of WA and is listed on the YTCA referral page. |

The one thing that may be a road block to you becoming a member of either is that you participate in cross breeding. That is frowned upon by Regional Clubs, The National Club and AKC Kennel Clubs. |

:) LOL! Truth eventually comes to the light. That is what YT is for! Perhaps it will help you change your breeding practices for the better. |

As I have said before, I am the founder of the American cockapoo club which I started several years ago for keeping track of the lineage of our dogs. We are up 4+ generations, and we have a couple of breeders who are up to 10th generations of cockapoos. We also have a new name for them that will go into effect within the next year and become part of the rare breeds organization. It takes a long time to get a dog recognized and I wont let you put me down for it. They are even on the OFA list of recognized "breeds".. go look..that took some time to get the cockapoo on there as well. You wont find a yorkie poo, or other hybrids or designer breeds on their list. There are some of us out here that love the cockapoo breed and don't do it to make money. I certainly don't make any money, just ask my husband.:D The cockapoo is not a hybrid or a designer dog and have been around for a very long time. Unfortunately there are some people out there breeding them for money and only breeding cocker and poodle "hybrids", just like some breeders of purebreds do it for the money by mass producing. I breed 2-3 litters a year. And the good ones do all the appropriate testing on their dogs, including me:) and I am proud of my breeding program. So, you can think anything you like, I cannot change closed minds and I don't want to. But I will defend myself when being judged by someone who doesn't even know me. Have a wonderful day. :) |

Thanks for the feedback. |

Another person began attending meetings to the same yorkie club and if memory serves me correctly I think she was a YT member. She was breeding Shelties and Yorkies... Needless to say she was not accepted. All breed clubs require home visits prior to accepting a potential member into the club.....Whether you are doing it cautiousley or not, cross breeding is very frowned upon by these breed clubs. |
