My biggest question is should I dock the tail of the Parti? Some people said no, others said yes. I prefer a docked tail myself and my wife loves them either way :D.

The Parti has black/brown on one side of her face and just black on the other.

As sad as it is, I took pictures of the white boy that passed away as well if anyone cares to see him.

Congratulations on your two new beautiful babies, and sympathy for the one you lost.

If you are keeping her, the choice would be 100% based on your preference. I am like your wife in that I like both, but I would love to see how the colors on her tail come out. :) Are you thinking about breeding her someday? Would the tail make a difference in that situation?

Being that it is a Yorkie and not a Biewer, I would dock the tail. I will admit that I dread that day the most out of breeding, but I would still do it. Yorkies get their tails docked, Biewers don't. A Parti is a Yorkie with a color anomaly....but all Yorkie nonetheless.

i wouldn't dock the tail. i believe parti yorkies keep their tails, as do biewers.

I don't guess it really matters about the tails. I know that Biewers keep theirs, but I would think that Partis would have them docked.:confused: In actuallity, seeing as Parti is not yet recognized as a standard, I don't think there would really be any standard for keeping or docking the tail either. I mean, the color isn't standard, what would the tail matter...KWIM?
Looks like that choice is completely up to what YOU prefer.:)

No, the parti colored Yorkies have docked tails. They are still all Yorkie,just not the traditional color.

I prefer a docked tail. But since you are keeping the puppy for yourself, it's up to you as to whether or not you are going to dock the tail...which do you prefer?

I would keep the tail - with those colors it's gotta be a beauty ;)

Ruben, SO VERY SORRY to hear of the one who passed over,you WERE BLESSED with a beautiful Parti-Yorkie puppy,while it is true somewhere in the background of the sire or the dam, there was this gene,you may never know
where it popped in.
All too many breeders will not acknowledge they HAD one or more parti puppies in THEIR LITTER,rather than feel blessed they had healthy puppies, they focus on the "woops"some place them without papers,(big secret you see) or some (HEAVEN FORBID,WHICH I THINK IS HORRIBLE) WILL destroy them...to KEEP their secret.
Other times,as was mentioned,breeders will just not list the correct color so it will not show up on the pedigree as a other than normal Yorkie color...sorry but I found this to be true....BUT NO MATTER!
You were blessed with this "special" little fur kid,it might happen with a following litter or you may never see this pop up again in any further litters that are whelped..sometimes...it is a once in a lifetime "gift."

The carrier genes must be somewhere on BOTH sides for this to throw forward,usually parti bred to parti SHOULD produce all parti BUT since this was a gene that was produced from a normal colored Yorkie,this IS a chance someone could produce a puppy with a little more Yorkie color and less white somewhere down the line....lines for color must be reinforced,if the gene pool is limited,( in the surrounding area)be careful of inbreeding.
There is great discussion on "who contributes what" some will say it "is the stud who sets the litter" I believe it must take both,sire and dam,with qualities and faults from both to contribute to a litter. This does not mean you do not search for the best quality,healthy sire( if you do not have your own) every bitch can get some excellent qualities from studs,darker eyes,better ear sets,size,conformation,smaller ears,good hips,good knees, no liver shunt problems>>>BUT>>> the bitch must also be free of health problems
and she will still give her 2 cents worth in all the puppies born.If not, IF it were just the stud who gives everything to the litter,we'd see 100% exact
duplicates,a "perfect clone" of only the stud... don'tcha think?
So,BOTH of these dogs MUST carry this color gene somewhere in the back-
ground,could be as far back as the 5th generation,could be further back than this BUT IT IS THERE.
IF you are not breeding for health AND JUST A SPACIFIC COLOR, it can be a hit and miss if another parti is born,it could happen once more,it could then stop or it could continue to have one or two born..not knowing the genes and colors behind...unfortunate but there is no guarantee.
Our beautiful Biewers are an example of breeding for health AND COLOR and this was over many generations and YEARS OF HARD WORK,to breed these little wonders!Someone had to do a lot of genetic reseach...again...even IF both parents carry this parti gene..to establish it,will take YEARS OF CAREFUL BREEDING to set and establish the colors as well as maintain health.
